Ever wanted to contribute to or commons ? A bit scary about the based workflow ? Afraid of having to manipulate thousands of emails locally ?

No worries: yhetil.org, a public-inbox based service, provides a nice web front end to browse for patches, issues and bugs you may contribute to fix: thread overview, outlining, reply links, thread download in format, everything you need to start contributing is there.

If you’re a happy user, try to combine with browser and your favourite emacs based email client, you’ll never look back again.

@csantosb Guix is (most likely?) moving to Codeberg. Interesting to see how it affects contributions.

@csantosb @simendsjo

If guix wants more contributors, I'd first and foremost recommend dropping the code of conduct. It made the community a lot more exclusive and toxic.

I was an early contributor, from before the CoC days, and decided to stop contributing due to that problem. Would love to go back, Codeberg or not, but not if the community is going to be so toxic and exclusionary.

@taylan

Sorry to heard about that. I'm myself a late modest contributor, and I'm following this effort since only a couple of years. I don't have this feeling at all: the community is rather friendly and welcoming.

Maybe it is time for a second chance to make things improve at ?

@csantosb @simendsjo

Unfortunately I have very little hope of things improving any time soon, since I've noticed that it's considered normal within the Guix community to use slurs like "terf" for people like me. Here's what I think about that term:

https://feministwiki.org/wiki/TERF

This is a wider trend in the liberal section of society, but it's been especially bad in tech in the last 10 years.
FeministWiki · TERF - FeministWikiTERF is a slur used by transgender activists to debase anyone who criticizes their movement on the basis of feminist concerns.

@taylan @csantosb Sounds bad :( I have not seen this myself, and I hope it's addressed even if it's not done in public. I'm pretty sure many of the core contributors oppose sick behavior, so try reaching out when you see it next time. I guess it's pretty much unavoidable in the current landscape, but it doesn't help if the community is silent when it happens.
