I miss Youtube before became a thing. All sorts of terrific lectures and presentations and so much good and worthwhile material - all just a search away.

And now there's people who's thing is being "content creators" and having "channel followers" and they really do say "like and subscribe".

Great lectures and presentations when I was learning and in 2016, when learning a few years later. Now I'm learning , and is full of so much garbage.

@stevenaleach yep there are annoyances.. especially ads, and even if you pay for premium (totally worth it) the content creators stick ads in their videos. I agree there’s tons of crap, but still lots of good stuff in there. I believe there’s a more community based site for videos, but it’s really very slim vs YouTube.

@Bluejean Yea, the ads are definitely a problem - I use adblock and never actually see them of course (I wouldn't ever use Youtube if there were actual ads playing), but the other day I thought maybe there might be a plugin to filter out videos that the uploader hasn't disabled ads on, filter out the commercial junk.... no such thing seems to exist.. a bit more searching and yea, it turns out it's not possible to prevent ads from being shown in videos you upload. Yikes. Unforgivable.

@Bluejean Now that I know ads can't be disabled I'm disappointed to have never seen the obvious response in any videos: A title screen with text saying that the creator of this work does not approve of these ads, recommends an ad blocker, and suggests boycotting any products and/or services which disrupt playback.

Would expect to be constantly talking about it, reminding viewers that it wasn't their choice (and adblock exist). I mean their videos are being ruined for most viewers.

@mo8it @stevenaleach now this is why I love this community, thank you for the gh link!

@stevenaleach Just avoid "entertainers" like ThePrimeagen that want to upload as many videos as possible. High quantity, but low quality. He made better content before committing to Twitch.
