How's everyone enjoying their time on Sigmoid Social these days?
We've been in slow decline in active users, but it's still at 3.1k so this place is certainly still alive :)
Let us know if we can do anything to improve your experience in here!
(except for latex/markdown support, that's sadly not really doable)
I really love the concept of a federated open social media.
But in Mastodon, can anyone really be a part of many kinds of discussion?
Twitter offers me content across interest areas, and so does Reddit.
I can sub to r/books with r/maths and r/machinelearning and get posts from everywhere in the same feed.
Mastodon is way too fragmented for me.
Or maybe I am not using it properly.
@rito Mastodon is actually more like reddit than Twitter - there are different instances (akin to subreddits) and you can follow people from any instance you want (akin to following subreddit). Granted, Mastodon is not centralized so it's not as easy to find these different instances, but there is a handy way to browse them here https://joinmastodon.org/servers
Thank you for the reply.
I do not mean to ask for tech support from you.
But I have to find out if I can follow whole other instances (like subreddits) instead of just people from other instances.
If I can do that through the common clients or through some hacky client that must exist (like Infinity for Reddit or Nitter for Twitter), I would like Mastodon very much.
Thanks again!
@rito Unfortunately following whole other instances is not possible. As far as a client, you can always go to that instance's public feed in a different tab and follow people from that instance there https://mastodon.social/public/local
Fedilab also supports following multiple instances, it seems https://www.reddit.com/r/Mastodon/comments/hjwu74/how_can_i_join_or_just_see_follow_posts_people/
Qoto also appears to support this https://qoto.org
Appreciate this info!
You, by no way, *had* to do this, but did it anyway.
Thanks!
Take my best.
@rito happy to help!
