#AskFedi: Where would you share (stl) files for #3DPrinting? Is there still a place where one can host them that is not suspect in its business model and at least doing its best to not get inundated with genAI slop?
(I am making a few things that might also be useful for others, so I am looking for things)

#ScribesAndMakers Jul 30: Whether or not you did everything you hoped to, what's something that went well this month?

After getting a #3dPrinting filament refill (as opposed to filament wound onto a spool), I decided to design and print an adapter that upcycles empty cardboard spools into reusable spools for refills.

Much better than sending the spools for recycling.

Is there any meaningful, real life benefits for ASA over ABS? I got a local dollar store equivalent super cheap, no-name ABS and I'm comparing it to at least somewhat known brand, a lot more expensive ASA. At least in printing I see very little difference. They both warp the same way and the finished product seems to have very similar structural strength.

I've been meaning to print Benchy and then some other shape from PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA and TPU, attach them onto a board and leave that outside onto the building's roof and see what the Nordic conditions really do to them in the long run. From early days prints I know PLA is getting totally annihilated out there.

Take a good look at the picture.
Then look at the actual 3D model.

There's more and more of this pathetic AI generated 3D models based on AI generated pictures on #printables. That garbage is (usually) tagged, however you can't set the filter to be always-on. And those users even have the audacity to attach a license to those things, which is literally impossible.

I'm beyond disgusted. Neither is there artistry, nor even quality, it's just misleading trash.
