i cannot be unbiased about fauziah - i don’t think she is terribly well informed, generally, and i don’t like her politics.

i don’t doubt her distress over what is happening in gaza was genuine, but i muted the tele anyway, before sitting next to fren who was struggling (with cruelly arthritic fingers) to manipulate her boiled egg.

fren asked why i muted tele.

cos, i said, we need to know what is happening, and we need to do what we can about it, and we need to know what we can do, but this is just pornography. there is no rational discussion of viable solutions, and no call for viewers to act. it’s sole purpose is to provoke an emotional response, and the response it provokes is one of impotence and hopelessness. it’s designed to make us feel like there is nothing we can do, so the people doing it can keep doing what they are doing.
this is not “news” this shit has been happening for 80 years and the establishment has been telling us the whole time that pro-palestinian thinking is wrong.

of course, i may be wrong. (I often am). but i am not a happy camper at the best of times, and not at my best in the mornings.

someone has emailed me a photo of a trip to echuca about 25 years ago. if you don’t mind all the touristy bits that make it so accessible, echuca is a magic, happy place.

Even after 21 months, mainstream media continue to print Israeli talking points and denials. And do so without any of the necessary context.

If a government engaged in mass slaughter has set a new world record for killing journalists, has prevented all international journalists from entering or talking to the victims of its extreme violence, censors all journalists working in its own jurisdiction, is led by fugitives from international criminal justice, and has been proven many times over to issue false and misleading statements about previous criminal violence, then maybe don't print their latest cut-n-paste denials and obfuscations?

Or if you're going to (for the sake of the historical record?), then don't do so without consistently reminding readers of these crucial contexts for interpreting their latest wild claims.

This story reminds me of my one, real near-death experience.

When I was in my mid 20s I was having some sleep issues, with incidents of (I now realize) the not so uncommon phenomenon of waking sleep paralysis. Several doctor visits led to an MRI at the local hospital. The day of the procedure, I was prepping through the paperwork and questions and had put on the gown and was about to be lead into the MRI room.

One of the questions I was asked concerned whether or not there was any metal in my body -- a plate in my skull, a replaced knee, or some such. Dental fillings were safe. I answered to the negative, but just before walking into the MRI room, I recalled that in the prior year I had a root canal done, during which the tip of the a aaaa a dentist's tool snapped off in my tooth. The dentist opted to sanitize the site and backfill, leaving the piece in place (after consulting a dental reference book on the matter...). Alarmed recalling this, I was advised by the concerned MRI tech to call my dentist's office from the hospital and asked if the dental tools were made with a ferrous metal. After a bit of telephone shuffling, I was assured that they were not. So, I headed to the restroom one more time before reporting that I was ready to go for the MRI procedure.

Then, all of a sudden someone started banging on the window from the MRI control room. It turns out my dentist had called back to the the MRI department and reported that, upon contemplation, he took one of his dental tools and touched it to a refrigerator magnet... and found that there was attraction. The piece of metal broken off in the root of my tooth would, in fact, be attracted by the machine's incredibly powerful electromagnets.

The procedure was, of course, cancelled for that day and I was told by the MRI operator that if the dentist hadn't called back to the MRI center in the hospital with this news, the result would've been catastrophic. He explained that a tiny pinhead embedded in the center of a bowling ball would've been torn through the ball and shot into the MRI machine. It would've been a similar scenario with my skull and brain as the bowling ball.

I ended up delaying the procedure, having an endodontist surgically remove the piece of metal in a lengthy procedure. I finally went through with the MRI, which went smoothly; nothing troubling was found during the test and no large chunk of brain and skull departed my body. That's my near death experience.

In a post on his Truth Social site, #Trump cast the lawsuit as part of his efforts to punish #news outlets, including #ABC & #CBS, which both reached multimillion-dollar settlement deals with Trump after he took them to court.

The size of the settlement, $16 million, is the same sum that #ABC News agreed to pay in December to settle a *defamation* case filed by #Trump against the network & one of its anchors, George Stephanopoulos. #Paramount’s board was concerned that paying a higher amount to settle the case could increase the company’s exposure to potential legal actions from shareholders accusing them of #bribery.
