electron.greg<p>My treasured Microvitec CUB monitor for my <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/BBCMicro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BBCMicro</span></a> died after the one-before-last retro computer event. </p><p>Whilst I plan to get that repaired (paging my twin brother!), I have sourced a very good condition super-early model. The one with a very light grey phosphor.</p><p>It is certainly MUCH better in darker rooms, but still pleased with its performance for such an elderly unit.</p>

µP<p>IS BASIC from the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Enterprise128" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Enterprise128</span></a> is the foremost advanced <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BASIC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BASIC</span></a> dialects for <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/8Bit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>8Bit</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/HomeComputers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HomeComputers</span></a>. But it is very(!) slow. The "Creative Computing Benchmark" took nearly 5 minutes to run (comparable to the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SinclairZXSpectrum" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SinclairZXSpectrum</span></a> and the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/TRS80" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TRS80</span></a> Model 100) but produced excellent results: "accuracy" is quite good (comparable with <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BBCMicro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BBCMicro</span></a>) and "random" is the best of all computers measured in the contest from 1984:</p>

Today I arrived in Great Britain's BASIC systems. Looking through different benchmarks I found the one from David Ahl (printed in "Creative Computing" 1983/84) and tested on dozends of mini computers, super computers, mainframes and home computers ... but not on the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/AmstradCPC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AmstradCPC</span></a>. So, here you are: The CPC with Locomotive BASIC 1.1 on a Europien CPC (50Hz) is one of the best (only topped by the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BBCMicro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BBCMicro</span></a>):</p>

It uses the SRAM to speed things up, and I'm backporting faster code from the <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/BBCMicro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BBCMicro</span></a> and <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/C64" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>C64</span></a> versions too.</p><p>The plan is to add as many cool features as I can: on the list are suns, lots of ship blueprints, Thargoids, a proper docking computer and more.</p><p>Showing the Elk some well-deserved love!
