@Anuj Ahooja This makes me wonder if a decentralised, anyone-can-host-it third-party bridge that's only a bridge would be feasible.

Of course, it'd be the easiest to integrate such a bridge directly into Fediverse server software. But we've only got so many multi-protocol Fediverse server applications right now already, and the only one that's still occasionally adding new protocols or even a bridge is Friendica. It is therefore the only Fediverse server software that can connect to Bluesky without Bridgy Fed.

But I’m curious: Is this just my personal experience, or do others share the impression that Mastodon fosters a more fact-based discussion environment? Have you explored other platforms beyond Bluesky that prioritize constructive dialogue?

It’s disheartening to see how platforms that prioritize engagement over accuracy can drown out meaningful conversations. While I’m fortunate enough to avoid Twitter/X and Meta, I recognize that transitioning to open-source, decentralized social networks isn’t feasible for everyone. This makes me wonder: How can we encourage more platforms to adopt models that foster informed debate rather than outrage? Supporting not-for-profit or decentralized alternatives might be part of the solution, but it’s a challenge that requires broader awareness and action.

Nach anfänglichen Schwierigkeiten nach der Aktualisierung auf Debian 12 (Bookworm) mit meiner Diaspora Instanz laufen nun alle meine Instanzen einwandfrei:

we can't really judge #bluesky (or how we compare with them) until they are past the runway part of the VC money, when we can see what they will really do to provide a return on their investments. they are growing fast and saying and doing all the right things like every business in their position always has. that's really hard to compete against. we're doing great considering. #SocialWeb

Explaining ATProto to people used to ActivityPub is as hard as explaining ActivityPub to people coming from centralized social media because it's just as big a conceptual shift.

Twitter/Facebook/etc->AP split one center into multiple centers. App and data are still bound together.

AP->AT splits app and data. You choose your data host, and then you choose your app. Most apps will bring data hosting along and you won't have to think about it, but the option is there: the credible exit.

Il y a un peu moins de 2 mois, Le Media a lancé #Ripostes "Pour une coordination antifasciste".

C'est la 1ère fois que je l'ouvre et une chose m'a immédiatement sauté aux yeux, dans la case "Nous suivre sur les réseaux", uniquement 2 logos #Bluesky et #mastodon

Alors, avant même de lire les articles, je me dit qu'un média qui fait ce choix dès le départ mérite ad minima les quelques dizaines de minutes que je vais lui consacrer à partir de...maintenant !

We've got a first "normal" independent #Bluesky community PDS with >100 users, from Rudy Fraser's Blacksky :) Rudy has officially launched the PDS this weekend and has been helping people from his community migrate there from Bluesky PBC hosted servers whole day.

(There's also a new third party migration tool that was launched this week, which has been very helpful in this: pdsmoover.com 🐮)
