Researchers at the Carl Ludwig Institute for Physiology at #UniLeipzig have, for the first time, shown how the energy content of individual neurons in the #brain changes during so-called spreading depolarizations – waves of activity that occur in brain disorders. The findings provide a basis for understanding energy metabolism in cases of acute ischaemia, such as that which occurs in #stroke.
