a tiny me, circa 1969, holding our kitty Midnight. I was surprised to find this picture because Midnight did not let people hold her. I am proud to be able to document the fact that she let *me* hold her, at least once.

She was a good cat. 💞

A quotation from J. M. Barrie

As you look at Wendy, you may see her hair becoming white, and her figure little again, for all this happened long ago. Jane is now a common grown-up, with a daughter called Margaret; and every spring cleaning time, except when he forgets, Peter comes for Margaret and takes her to the Neverland, where she tells him stories about himself, to which he listens eagerly. When Margaret grows up she will have a daughter, who is to be Peter’s mother in turn; and thus it will go on, so long as children are gay and innocent and heartless.

J. M. Barrie (1860-1937) Scottish novelist and dramatist [James Matthew Barrie]
Peter and Wendy, ch. 17 “When Wendy Grew Up” (1911)

I see the children play,
In the park across the street,
Laughing and smiling,
What is was to be free,
My mind goes with them,
Running hand in hand,
Just for a little while,
A boy and not a man,
It seems so long ago,
The sky was much more blue,
Dreams were a reality,
I could even touch the moon,
Now the decades have past,
Knowing the evil that abounds,
Hoping these little ones never know,
And maybe one day I can put my sword down.
