So that gives a total of
#CrossBorderRail lines visited!
(Edited: found I had counted a Czech border wrong, so it's 388 not 390!)
There are however still 67 disused and dismantled #CrossBorderRail lines I have not yet been to...
Although only a handful have any prospect of re-activation
So I am not going to try to go to those!
So I have been to all bar 5 active railway #CrossBorderRail lines between all of these
ALL countries (except
,
that have no railways)
I am missing
For political reasons I won't go to
so those aren't counted
to
is covered, to
it's not
And there are four active #CrossBorderRail lines where the track is legally active, but there are no passenger trains, that I am missing
Eglaine - Obeliai
Renge - Mažeikiai
Rybnitsa (Transnistria) - Klymentove
Uzhhorod - Maťovské Vojkovce
Ah ha
Perfect!
The only #CrossBorderRail line with passenger traffic, sort of, that I am now missing is...
Roma San Pietro - Citta Vaticano
There's probably no god, now stop worrying and enjoy your #CrossBorderRail!

Hi there and apologies for asking for information and not contributing much to the conversation here - I am looking for a decent way to get by rail and maybe ferry from Bonn to Athens in mid February 2026.
Anybody some guidance on that?
I might be able to have a stopover in Milano and so I'm thinking about traveling by rail to either Bari, Ancona or Brindisi and taking a ferry (overnight?) to Igoumenitsa or Patras. And then on by bus and/train. There seems to be no rail option between Igoumenitsa and Athens, and the route between Patras and Athens also seems to include a bus. With all the variables, it's a bit overwhelming, I'm afraid I'm missing something crucial.
I can also see that the ferries might have a reduced schedule in winter...
I have doubts that travelling via the Balkan peninsula will safe any time...

Tomorrow I’m just in Wien, Tuesday it’s back to France and the end
Next #CrossBorderRail trip has been (almost entirely) booked: Paris-Berlin-Warsaw-Vilnius-Daugavpils-Riga-Tallinn-Helsinki. Nine trains, one bus, one ferry, and sadly one plane back because work.
One of the lovely things about being chief registration queue wrangler on the first day of an #EJC is finding out the variety of ways people use to get there.
Lots of people combining #CrossBorderRail with cycling (as their bikes are very useful around the site) and some doing their entire trips by bike!
Many people covered over 150km on bikes to get here!
I'd struggle with the weight (and time) constraints a bit to manage an EJC by bike from Ireland.
