#Physicists unlock another clue to brewing the perfect #espresso
Many variables can affect the quality of a cup of espresso, including so-called "channeling" during brewing process, in which water doesn't seep uniformly through grounds but branches off in various preferential paths. This reduces extraction yield and thus the quality of the brew. Scientists gleaned insights into underlying #physics of channeling that will help coffee lovers achieve more consistent results.

a cup of espresso being brewed
Ars Technica · Physicists unlock another clue to brewing the perfect espressoBy Jennifer Ouellette

Not my best anything but I preformed the cardinal sin of dialling in a coffee. Since the last drink I made I: changed coffees, made a large adjustment to my grinder (zero point adjustment), changed my dose, and changed my recipe. So all things considered I'm happy enough. I got the espresso to a drinkable state in two tries. So on the second shot after my first couple sips for quality control, I went ahead and made my morning latte with it. I'm hoping with a bit more adjustments I can convince those watermelon tasting notes I get when using the coffee for pour over to show up in the espresso. ☕

My coffee is so good this morning. I have one cup per day, so I really appreciate it when I get the right blend of roasts and milks and a little foam leftover from my partner’s latte (which I make). Also, my partner got me this locally made mug for our anniversary last year, and I use it … maybe four days out of seven? Heck yes. Today is so fabulous that I want the cup to be the perfect temperature and taste forever. Mmmmmmm. #espresso #coffee #MsPacMan #SundayMorning #Oregon
