monkeydom, Ar.T<p>Anybody else experiencing steamwebhelper dialogues instead of nice steam with their game porting toolkit steam setup on a apple silicon mac? Mine was working fine and did survive the update to sequoia only to mysteriously stop working yesterday. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/macOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>macOS</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/steam" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>steam</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GamePortingToolkit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GamePortingToolkit</span></a></p>

Sven A. Schmidt<p>The main obstacle to make this happen was to trick myself into buying a Windows machine by rekindling my love for video games via a very delightful detour called the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GamePortingToolkit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GamePortingToolkit</span></a>.</p>
Aaron Longchamps<p>I may not need Windows again...ever. I was only using it at home for games but today I looked in to running modded Minecraft via CurseForge and that was extremely stable. I did have to tweak a couple of mouse settings on macOS and inside Minecraft, but those were easy. The experience felt practically the same in my short test.</p><p>I found the macOS app Whisky, got that installed via homebrew, installed Steam, got logged in, and downloaded Gunfire Reborn. A quick loading screen later and it looks like that's also running very well at 60 FPS.</p><p>The next game to try will be Satisfactory. If that works well, I'm copying my save files over and unplugging my Windows PC.</p><p>As an added bonus, my Mac is about 10 years newer than my gaming PC so everything is that much faster. Especially loading screens. I was thinking of building a new Windows 11 PC but now I don't need to. I can also completely avoid Microsoft Recall.</p><p>I did upgrade the graphics card to a 2070 Super, back in 2019. I certainly got my use out of that computer, but have no interest in running Windows desktop anymore.</p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/gaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gaming</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/gamingonmac" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gamingonmac</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/gameportingtoolkit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gameportingtoolkit</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/whiskymac" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>whiskymac</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>windows</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/satisfactory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>satisfactory</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/minecraft" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>minecraft</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/gunfirereborn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gunfirereborn</span></a></p>
Sven A. Schmidt<p>And thank god for the UPS that saved my game progress when the thunderstorm blew the fuses 😅<a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GameportingToolkit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GameportingToolkit</span></a></p>
Sven A. Schmidt<p>Started playing SW Jedi: Fallen Order and Watch_Dogs 2 via the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GameportingToolkit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GameportingToolkit</span></a> and they both run great as well. The beauty of having 10 years of gaming to catch up on is that all this stuff is heavily discounted on Steam 🙂</p>
Sven A. Schmidt<p>Finished the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Cyberpunk2077" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Cyberpunk2077</span></a> Phantom Liberty DLC last night and what a ride that’s been. Epic.</p><p>I’ve also had a peek at Resident Evil 4 and while it’s not a game for me, the graphics it pulls off on Apple Silicon are amazing.</p><p>Between the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GameportingToolkit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GameportingToolkit</span></a> and some AAA games coming out now with Metal 3 there’s a glimmer of hope for <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Mac" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mac</span></a> gaming.</p><p>Please stick with it and push it more, Apple 🤞</p>
Sven A. Schmidt<p>Most bizarre. I’ve copied everything over to my old M1 MBP and it runs much smoother there than on the M2 Studio! Same macOS version. It must be something that’s regressed with the M2 on macOS 14.3. Maybe another OS or GPTk update will fix it.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Cyberpunk2077" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Cyberpunk2077</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GamePortingToolKit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GamePortingToolKit</span></a></p>
Sven A. Schmidt<p>Anyone else playing <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Cyberpunk2077" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Cyberpunk2077</span></a> via the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GamePortingToolKit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GamePortingToolKit</span></a> ? I've seen a drop from almost 60fps down to 30ish fps after installing the Phantom Liberty DLC •and• updating to Sonoma 14.3 (unfortunately at the same time) and am wondering what might have caused it.</p>
Sven A. Schmidt<p>Night City time, I can't stop heading over to that place, what a great game this is.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Cyberpunk2077" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Cyberpunk2077</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GamePortingToolKit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GamePortingToolKit</span></a></p>
Sven A. Schmidt<p>I could beat myself up that I waited this long to try playing Cyberpunk 2077 on my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Mac" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mac</span></a> via the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GamePortingToolKit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GamePortingToolKit</span></a>. What an amazing game.</p><p>Runs absolutely fine on medium settings (haven't really tried higher, it looks fantastic as it is). Feels like 60 fps, I haven't looked around for an fps meter. The benchmark in the gfx settings clocked it at 60fps.</p>
