While I won't say it's not good to know what's going on in the world, being constantly thinking about all the bad things happening *there* can be overwhelming and rob you of the ability to do good things where you are.</p><p>Check in with nonprofits. Get involved at your library. Volunteer with local schools. Attend local government meetings. Run for office! Get involved with the people you see in the grocery store and neighborhood.</p><p>Where your heart is, your treasure is also.</p><p>11/?</p>

Watching shows, going to movies, playing games, MMORPG with friends, disc golf, quilt making, travel, watching paint dry, whatever it is that makes you feel alive.</p><p>If all you do all the time is hard stuff that you dread and sucks you dry, that's a recipe for burnout and depression.</p><p>Find the fun. Swim, run, walk, hike, chair yoga, strength train, whatever your body can do, do it. Participate in organized (or unorganized) sports that you enjoy. Here on Mastodon, you can use lists, filters, mutes, and blocks to be choosy about what comes onto your feed. If you also use other social media, figure out what tools they offer to help minimize what you see.</p><p>Consider creating separate accounts for difference interests. That way when you're working on your underwater basketweaving, you only see underwater basketweaving things.</p><p>Find a handful of voices you trust to keep up to date on the things you want to know about.</p><p>3/</p>
