2/ We tried carrots and no sticks (i.e. the #IRA) and now not only is that approach being taken apart, entire #institutions which underpinned the overall strategy for the past few decades are being gutted. We are now more or less in the phase of having to choose among bad and worse choices.

It is time for some realpolitik. A couple ideas to consider:
a. Support tariffs on all exports from all countries. Link the tariff to the share of fossil energy being consumed in that country.

In retaliation, Protestant loyalists attacked Catholic enclaves in west Belfast, burning homes and businesses. Seventeen people were killed. At least 100 people were wounded. About 200 houses were destroyed or badly damaged, most of them Catholic homes, leaving 1,000 people homeless. 2/2

On 10 July 1921 Bloody Sunday broke out in Belfast. The violence erupted one day before a truce began in the Irish War of Independence, which ended the war in most of Ireland. With the truce nearing, police launched a raid against republicans, but were ambushed by the IRA and a British officer was killed. 1/2

Charts!

BBB will gut the IRA and add substantially to the deficit and the debt without providing any meaningful impetus to economic growth. It will pile about $3 trillion onto the deficit over the next 10 years, and it lacks provisions that could significantly boost economic growth.

#finance #401k #IRA question, US:

I'm considering taking Substantially Equal Periodic Payments, if I rollover my 401k to an IRA do I lose that option?

I am no longer at the workplace it is attached to.

Also, while I see nothing specific against it, feels weird trying to set up SEPP for, um. It'd be about 30 years? I am unsure how that works, if I can stop, if adjustments are possible as my asset values rise (please)??

I just want my money tbh 💧I am slightly tempted to take the 10% haircut.

Reps of #Palantir are also speaking to at least 2 other agencies—#SocialSecurity [#SSA] & the #IRA — about buying its technology, acc/to 6 govt ofcls & Palantir employees w/knowledge of the discussions.

The push has put a key #Palantir product called Foundry into at least 4 federal agencies, including #DHS & #HHS. Widely adopting Foundry, which organizes & analyzes #data, paves the way for #Trump to easily merge #information from different agencies, govt ofcls said.

Anti Imperialist Action #Ireland Proudly Remembers Commandant General James Connolly of the #Irish Citizen Army, the Commander in Chief of the Army of the Irish Republic (#IRA) #Dublin Division during the 1916 Rising who was executed on this day in 1916 by the forces of #British Imperialism in Ireland.

James Connolly is the father of Irish Socialist Republicanism, the guiding thought of the fight for National #Liberation and Socialism in Ireland.

Today in Labor History May 5, 1981: Bobby Sands (1954-1981) died, ending his 66-day hunger strike. Sands was an Irish political prisoner and member of Parliament who had been locked up in the notoriously brutal Maze Prison near Belfast. The strike was an attempt to get the British government to grant political prisoner status to Nationalist inmates, rather than treating them as common criminals.
