MylesRyden
Just venting. It involves the #InternetArchive but I am not blaming them at all, they are the greatest!

A few months ago I came across a treasure trove of VHS era movies on the Archive. Someone (it seemed) bought boxes and boxes of VHS tapes at garage sales or something and digitized them. Hundreds of them. Mostly #BMovies , #ExploitationMovies , Direct to video quickies and some made for TV #movies .

The files were listed alphabetically by a file name which was the entire title of the movie, year released with "VHSRip" appended on each one. Nothing in there ever made any money at the box office and generally don't exist anywhere else, except perhaps the depths of Tubi.

But now they are gone. Maybe the uploader took them down. Maybe IA removed them.

It bothers me a bit that this back alley of moviedom was removed when tons of Disney and other major studio and TV network material continue to rack up views.

VHSRipper, if you are out there somewhere and recognize yourself, let me know if you found another place to host your #VHSVault, I would love to continue working my way through it!

fromjason.xyz ❤️ 💻
I'm working on an essay about something that happened 20 years ago. While Google's front page is sparse, digging into the blogosphere with a little help from #InternetArchive, the full story is preserved. A story that perhaps some would prefer be lost in history.

fromjason.xyz ❤️ 💻
Shoutout to the archivists and aggregators—the people who have the foresight to know when tech history is happening, so they round up all the relevant blog posts, news articles, and socials.

Y'all are the unsung heroes of the web. Understanding tech history means not making the same mistakes. @82mhz Oh, I have a story with #palm programming!
I have a Palm device which can run #Java ME. JVM for #PalmOS I found easily in the palmdb.net.

But JDK 1.5/1.6, Sun Java Wireless Toolkit and an old Eclipse with WTK support weren't so easy to find. Especially because of "sanctions" 🤡 which prohibits usual programmer, who born with a "wrong citizenship", to download JDK 1.5.

I found Linux installers in the #InternetArchive and successfully installed them in the Ubuntu 20.04 with some hacking 😈
