Imam Ayman Soliman is a former chaplain at Cincinnati Children's Hospital known for his compassion. He has, of course, no criminal record whatsoever. He's been abducted by #ICE for horrifically Islamophobic and racist reasons, and his community is fighting to get him back.

Efforts like this have been making a huge difference. We are fighting giant cowards and when there is loud enough public outcry, people get released.

seriously now, if you want mastodon.social to moderate anything, you have to make a big #drama and #dogpile them. that is just my experience, not what i want. when people are already punching each other in the face, that is when they react. and strangely enough it is always lowkey about #islamophobia, which is like literally the only reason ever i reported people on here.

If you think the Democrats are going to save us, think again. California’s state assembly, overwhelmingly Democratic, just passed a new fascistic censorship and government control bill, AB715, with 100% unanimous support.

The bill claims to protect public school students from antisemitism and islamophobia. In reality, it simply suppresses free speech of students and staff. It’s definition of antisemitism is so broad that it will likely lead to an official policy equating anti-Zionism, and criticism of Israel, with antisemitism.

It prohibits schools from using any instructional material the state finds discriminatory, which will likely lead to bans and erasures of maps and distortions of curriculum on Palestine, Kurdistan, and Arab and Muslim history, in general.

The law would create the state’s first “Antisemitism Czar,” a new bureaucratic arbiter of what is acceptable speech and curriculum versus what is to be considered “antisemitic.”

Teachers, staff, and board members would be subject to rapid and severe consequences should the state find them in violation of this new law. Not only is this a severe restriction on academic freedom and the ability of teachers to teach the historical facts to their students, but it’s a violation of teachers’ rights to due process and to protection from vindictive and arbitrary discipline. No where does it state that a teacher must be found guilty of discriminating against a student, or a class of students. All they have to do to be in violation of the law is to say something the new state Antisemitism Czar finds offensive, like “Palestinians have the right to self-determination,” or “Israel is committing genocide.” Or even something as innocent as "Save the Children in Palestine."

Honestly.. Zohran's victory brought out the worst gutter racism & islamophobia in so many people. If I hadn't lived through the early 2000s it would shock me. Not just high up wastes of space like Gillibrand but average Americans too.

Ok, so why is the right so terrified of this guy? (keep in mind, this asshole is a sitting U.S. congressman calling for his deportation).

Perhaps partially because Mamdani is calling for inexpensive city-run grocery stores and other programs to benefit the poor and working class.

But even more so because of what his victory represents: The mass outrage of the U.S. public, over half of whom cannot afford the basic necessities of life, at the billionaire class, as it strips away the minimum safety net that previously existed, loots the government coffers, and gives itself massive tax cuts, while promoting genocide, environmental devastation, and world war.

God forbid other Mamdanis start winning in D.C., Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

So, what should we expect next?

Ans: Cuomo 2.0, running as an independent in the general election, courting the votes of so-called moderate Dems, as well as the Republicans, and quite possibly becoming the next mayor of NYC, just like Brown did to Black Lives Matters activist India Walton in the 2021 race for mayor of Buffalo.
