#NLI buys Bonar Law collection of historic maps https://www.rte.ie/radio/radio1/clips/22343003/ #Maps #IrishHistory Audrey Whitty, Director of the National Library of Ireland, talks to RTE about the acquisition of 19,000 maps and prints of Ireland going back to the 16th century.

NLI acquires most complete visual record of Ireland.

The Bonar Law Collection comprises close to 10,000 maps and 9,000 prints, which include caricature prints and ballad sheets, going back to the 16th Century.

Frank Fay was an actor, theatre producer and nationalist who set up the Ormonde Dramatic Company in 1891 with his brother William. They were members of the National Dramatic Society which merged with the Irish Literary Theatre in 1902 to form the Irish National Theatre Soc., the originating body of the #AbbeyTheatre; Yeats declared that the national theatre owed its existence to the brothers.
