Apparently fish don't exist - or, if they do, then we are fish. Either way, we never left the water & taking it with us as we left the sea took some astonishing & amazing evolution...

Knowing about code switching is important - particularly understanding how, like so many other things regular people
barely notice, it disproportionally negatively affects minorities.
- and no, it's not just ethnic/linguistic minorities, either; as Niba mentions, the way we speak is strongly connected to identity, so anyone whose identity doesn't Conform is going to have an additional mental load from code switching.
Seven things you may not know about Stonehenge - like, spoiler, that it isn't a henge...
Also, I laughed WAY harder than I should at the terrible Rock Music joke in number 5

I think this might actually be the first #AI explainer I've seen that you can send to your mom or show children & expect them to have a decent chance of understanding some of the key problems & dangers of this technology.
Let's be honest, most of us here are pro'lly some kind of nerd, which means we might simply overlook that most people know absolutely none of this, let alone understand it.

The SciShow folks doing their usual solid short-form documentary work on a topic that's personally dear to at least a couple of their own staff: a 101-level intro to hormone replacement/gender-affirming hormone therapies. Suitable for sharing with teachable cis friends and family.
I was watching the #SciShow episode on #Autism and was actually enjoying it. At least until Hank got to #ABA.
He did at least say "hey, some people consider this harmful, here is why," before following that up with "but it's also the most scientifically backed method of helping people with Autism" and "studies show that you should get them while they're young." (Not actual Hank Green quotes.)
So yeah, lovely when a science channel with nearly 8 million subscribers just promotes abuse with a caveat.

Astronomers managed to figure that one out roughly 100 years ago. But after all this time, they still can't come to an agreement on what "mostly" means, precisely. #science #astrophysics

Hi
I'm Rasmus from Denmark.
I make a living as a web developer. I do pretty much everything from server admin work to frontend development, and my preferred stack is #ruby, #rails, and #hotwire.
As my username hints at, programming is an interest of mine, and it's not just limited to #ruby, I find #rust and #elm fascinating as well.
I like #cycling, #coffee, baking #sourdough bread and #wine. I'm a road cyclist myself, but anything with pedals is awesome! The only thing I am adamant about is that the cycling cap should always be peak up
I relax by watching videos from the waaay too many Youtube subscriptions, I have. The list includes makers, gamers, cyclists, science communicators, and pretty much anything John and Hank Green are a part of.
#VlogBrothers and #SciShow was some of the first I subscribed to on Youtube, and I've watched (participated?) in the last handful of #project4awesome, I guess it makes me somewhat part of #nerdfighteria (#dftba!).
