It’s too much like : click on this link and you’ll win a fucking prize type of scam.</p><p>Why should any site need to know who or what is at the other end of the connection? There are many ways to prevent whatever it is that they are presumably ‘protecting’ with these shenanigans. I also rue the fact that any remotely ‘financial’ sites use the google ‘pick all bicycles’ game to do the same. There are many other ways to ensure the ‘client’ is ‘human’ (multi-factor authentication, dongle, biometrics, etc.)</p><p>Enshitification? Lazy programming? Bad design? Done on the cheap? Or just plain scamming and/or harvesting?
