Franklin López<p>12 days, thousands of kilometers dodging potholes and cynical corporate PR—from Nehirowisiw Territory to Kanehsatake, swing through Wemotaci, then Mashteuiatsh—just to film land defenders giving CN and the clear-cutting psychopaths the one-finger salute. This clip, They Stopped the Train to Defend the Forest, is a taste of our full doc Defenders of the Forest, dropping soon and free for your solidarity screenings.
Juliet and Indiana Jones<p>Yes, we are here supporting Australian wildlife at the Rally for Native Forests here in Naarm/ Melbourne. Honestly there has been a 73% decline in wildlife globally in the last 50 years. A Global assessment found 38% of tree species facing extinction. BellingenNSW<p>The history of forests<br>We are Forests: Inhabiting Territories in Struggle, Jean-Baptiste Vidalou <br>Translated by Stephen Muecke</p><p>"Governments try to deny it since their interests are placed in other places. They talk about sustainability, ecological transition, and zero carbon economy, but it’s all just a show. Behind the scenes rules the same extracting logic. The various mechanisms for reducing gas emissions due to deforestation and forest degradation (REDD) are only an illusion when they are directly linked to carbon credits and compensation mechanisms. Timber companies continue to fiercely exploit the forests and, at the same time, pride themselves as “acting for the climate”. The cynicism goes even further when these companies, with the support of governments, drive out local populations in the name of global forest management. According to these companies, the native peasants do not have the knowledge required to exploit these territories. They do not fully “own” the land since they do not capitalize it. A paternalist colonial approach indeed!"</p><p>"All of today’s modernized forestry, with its super-powered harvesters and heavy loaders, is geared towards this one purpose: planned harvesting and rapid product exploitation." <br>&gt;&gt;<br><a href="https://www.politybooks.com/bookdetail?book_slug=we-are-forests-inhabiting-territories-in-struggle--9781509556519" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">politybooks.com/bookdetail?boo</span><span class="invisible">k_slug=we-are-forests-inhabiting-territories-in-struggle--9781509556519</span></a><br><a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/book" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>book</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/NativeForests" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NativeForests</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/LoggingIndustry" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LoggingIndustry</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/FossilFuels" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FossilFuels</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/WarOfTheDemoiselles" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WarOfTheDemoiselles</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/StopLogging" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>StopLogging</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/NSWForestry" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NSWForestry</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/extractivism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>extractivism</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/EnvironmentalJustice" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EnvironmentalJustice</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/governance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>governance</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/ClearFelling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ClearFelling</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/sacrifice" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sacrifice</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/roads" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>roads</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/biodiversity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>biodiversity</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/ClimateEmergency" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ClimateEmergency</span></a></p>
