The Lotus Ring, is a “wearable, waterproof ring that controls objects at home by pointing.

"No app.
No rewiring.
No WiFi.

"1 Put on the ring. No need for speakers in every room.
2 Snap on the switch cover. Magnets eliminate rewiring.
3 Point & click. Infrared eliminates apps, smartphone, internet.

Here's a summary of what I learned so far 👇 - The fundamentals of good system design and architecture. How to think, design, and draw diagrams like a software architect. - Networking best practices to develop, maintain, and test a clean networking layer in iOS apps with key frameworks such as URLSession, URLProtocol, Decodable, and third-party code. Also, how to work effectively with backend teams. - Persistence best practices to effectively develop, maintain, and test a clean persistence layer in iOS apps using URLCache, CoreData, FileManager, Codable, and other key persistence frameworks. - UI, UX, and Presentation best practices, and how to develop, maintain, and test a clean UI and Presentation layer in iOS apps. Visual effects like #MotionBlur, #ChromaticAberration, #FilmGrain, and #Vignette are often overused.

While they can add style, they frequently reduce clarity and distract from the content.

- Motion blur can make scenes feel messy or sluggish.
- Chromatic aberration often looks artificial and strains the eyes.
- Film grain hides detail and can feel like low-quality noise.
- Vignettes overly direct attention and shrink visual space.

#Devs Use them with care — less is usually more.

Oooh, here’s a sneaky #design thing. At certain browser widths, the itv dot com website initially loads with the “Manage, Reject, Accept” button arranged vertically, but shortly re-lays out the buttons horizontally. The effect is that if you were intending to hit the “Reject” button, you end up hitting the “Accept” button.

I’m pretty sure this is unintentional, caused by overeager “responsive” website code, but the net effect is still bad.

Please excuse me, i DO recognise, that i'm not "patient teacher" material.

I've read 1 book about #Web #UI #UX, almost 2 decades ago, and that was quite reasonable.

How do people still get the most basic ideas about #CSS CONTRAST wrong, in 2025?!

edit: they can't ALL be #VibeCoding, can they?

GAAARGH, ze mind; it boggles! 🥴

#ubuntu

Today is the day before I write my weekly newsletter, so of course Brave chooses today to roll out an update that obliterates all of my open tabs by combining "redundant" "inactive" ones. And then automatically opts every user into this feature.

I had a few Mastodon tabs open, now they are just one tab that points to mastodon.social.

So, uhh...anyone write anything good on #Product / #UX topics that they want me to feature this week? 😅

anyone come across proposals for redesigning the Godot engine editor UI/X? (even purely theoretical) #godot #ux
after using it heavily for the first time in a few years i feel even more sure we're in a moment similar to blender before 2.80, a big modern change to the UX would bring an order of magnitude of new game devs into the scene

"Vordenker" - Naja.
