Christina Anne Hawthorne
#WordWeavers 12
promotion

One might assume by how little I do it, that I’m uncomfortable promoting my work. Not true. I’m actually extremely comfortable with sharing.

My lack of promotion has to do with time, resources, & all that sites do to frustrate a writer’s efforts.

So, I take my opportunities when they come, if they come, & devote my remaining time alive to writing & publishing, leaving behind the legacy no one in my life believed possible.

#AmWriting #WritingCommunity

Wendy Palmer
2/2

The last thing I wanted to comment on ties in to today's #wordweavers topic, Are you comfortable promoting your own work?

The article ("article") linked in the previous toot mentioned/advertised an AI tool for automating marketing. And I can see how that would be appealing, if it actually worked, because so many authors are NOT comfortable with marketing.

My thoughts, without knowing more than the blurbage in that article, and without having any interest myself, is to wonder how a helpful such a highly automated system would be.

The previous bit was about turning direct sales into an experience, which is all about the personal connection. Personal connections aka word-of-mouth is also how many sales are made in the first place. Blasting out AI-generated marketing material strikes me as a) akin to spamming your potential audience and b) losing the personal 🤷‍♀️

/end

@indieauthors

Sarah J Hoodlet
#WordWeavers 12Jul—Are you comfortable promoting your own work?

I've become more comfortable over time. I still don't really *like* doing it, but I know it's necessary for my work to get noticed.

Context also matters. I'm much more comfortable making a FB ad than, say, promoting in--person. That's not to say I don't talk about my stories, I absolutely do. But it's more "This is what my story's about!" and less "Buy my books please!"

Maybe this will change when TWOTW series is complete. 🤷‍♀️
