I was trying to take a photo of a small and beautiful viper's burgloss that popped up in the garden and was photobombed by a curious Jette 😂

By the way, the four of them are in the same coop now and rub along okay together. The adult hens still bully the little ones whenever they're too close, but Cleo and Jette are feisty and curious and explore more and more. They occasionally break out some ninja moves to escape the larger bullies. 🤸🏼‍♀️ Unfortunately, they would rather sleep on top of the shelter instead of inside (where they get pecked if they are too loud and fidgety), so I still have to put them into the shelter myself each night.

Chicken people, I need some help. We would like to get another bantam langshan but finding a breeder is proving very hard. Can you recommend someone near to Melbourne VIC Australia that could sell me a bantam lanshan or two?

I don't want to go on Facebook (I don't have an account) and chicken breeders apparently don't have regular websites. #ChickenDad #BackyardChickens

Yesterday, I lost my second chicken due to being egg-bound. This is the second chicken to die of this in a month. They are both three years old, different breeds (Delaware and Gold Sex Link).

Really kind of a bummer. One of them was the leader of the flock and a personal favorite. She's in the header of my profile. RIP, Milk.

For the first one, I only figured out what was going on too late. By the time I brought her in and started trying to help her with warm water, she was on death's door. At least she died with me there. I had rescued her from a wild animal and she's loved me ever since.

For the second one, I recognized the symptoms earlier and brought her in for a proper epsom salt bath and lubed her vent, but she didn't pass the egg after a while so I returned her to the flock. I should have been more patient. Yesterday, again I think it was too late. She didn't have enough strength left to pass the egg. RIP, Hashbrown.

Anyway, kind of a bummer but you learn as you go. They still had great lives. It's ironic because I'm planning on picking up three new chicks tomorrow morning.

WIRED · How to Protect Your Cats (and Backyard Chickens) From Bird FluBy Sassafras Lowrey

If you’ve landed on my platform Hi! 👋 I’m Soolah and I am a professional #hulahooper and #FireDance performer. Good morning from Minneapolis, where we've clawed our way to Friday, as we do each and every week if we're lucky.

2025: 73 days in/292 out. "One Day at a Time."

It's 52℉ at the moment, heading for a high of 74℉.

Or, as our friends in the civilized world who use SI units would say, 23°C.

Barometer's falling. Rainy and snowy weather are on the way for the weekend.

We could use it. To paraphrase one of the Little Mermaid's aquatic sidekicks, Life's so much better / Here when it's wetter.

While walking borrowed dog Pepper the Australian kelpie this week, we happened upon some backyard chickens and their friendly yellow dog who came over to the fence to greet us.

Nice poultry operation here in the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis.

Enjoy this pleasant spring weather. It'll be hotter 'n 'ell before we know it.
