Ok, attempting to expand my #fediverse community to include my fellow #education folks!

I'm teaching #middleschool #art in Baltimore City. I'm interested in connecting with all #arteducator s, middle and high school teachers of whatever subjects, and #Baltimore City teachers and school-adjacent folks.

I have always made art for a living and taught part-time, ~ a 30 (art sales)/70 (teaching gigs) split with income. This is the first time doing ONE JOB that I know will be super hard!

#Trump threatened to “take over” & “beautify” #DC on the campaign trail & claimed it was “a nightmare of murder & crime.” He also argued the #city was “horribly run” & said his team intended “to take it away from the mayor.” Trump on Monday repeated old comments about some of the nation’s largest #cities, including #Baltimore, #Chicago, #LosAngeles, #Oakland & his hometown of #NYC. All are currently run by #Black mayors.

"President Donald Trump called out five cities across the United States as he discussed his decision to formally declare a public safety emergency in #WashingtonDC, triggering a federal takeover of the city's police department.

"Trump's remarks insinuated that #Baltimore, #Chicago, #LosAngeles, #NewYorkCity and #Oakland could face a similar effort from his administration, with the president saying the effort to address crime and homelessness in the U.S. would 'go further' as he specifically named the cities.

"Speaking from the White House alongside Defense Secretary #PeteHegseth, Attorney General #PamBondi, and other cabinet officials, Trump announced 800 National Guard troops will be sent to the capital to 'reestablish law, order and public safety.'

"He also invoked federal authority to take over the Metropolitan Police Department, citing 'special conditions of an emergency nature' under the District of Columbia's Home Rule Act.

"The move marks one of the most aggressive federal interventions in local law enforcement in recent history. While the president holds direct command over the D.C. National Guard, governors typically control Guard units in their own states.

Trump has signaled he may extend similar measures to other Democratic-led cities, naming Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Baltimore as potential targets for federal deployments.

" 'We have other cities also that are bad. Very bad,' Trump said during the press conference on Monday. 'You look at Chicago, how bad it is. You look at Los Angeles, how bad it is. We have other cities that are very bad. New York has a problem. And then you have, of course, Baltimore and Oakland. We don't even mention that anymore there.' "

"The page of “La Fleur de Histoires” on view at the Walters Art Museum as part of a new exhibit called “Paws on Parchment” contains at least nine — nine! — inky paw prints marring a manuscript page that the cat’s owner, a 15th century Flemish scribe, was toiling feverishly to complete for a major and possibly royal client.

This page is the centerpiece of “Paws on Parchment,” which opened this week and which examines the relationship between medieval humans and their feline frenemies. While the intimate, one-room show of 20 illuminated manuscripts, one painting and one keepsake box might not be the largest exhibit in the museum’s 91-year history, it could be among the most charming."
