Oliver Brendel<p>Been the last two days in a workshop on oriental beech, Fagus orientalis. A species growing from Greece to the Caucasus and probably the parental species from which our European F. sylvatica evolved. And there might be a possibility of it being perhaps slightly more drought resistant (choosing carefully my words here :-), but clearly more diverse, and therefore an interesting species to adapt our <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/beech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>beech</span></a> <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/forests" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>forests</span></a> at critical sites to <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/ClimateChange" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ClimateChange</span></a>. The forest floor in the beautiful Jasmund Nationalpark on Rügen, Germany's largest island, turns into a green and white carpet each spring. Millions of wood anemones then bloom between the trees in this vast beech forest. A magnificent sight.<br>
