Stephan Kurz<a href="https://infosec.exchange/@josephcox" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@josephcox</a> depending on language subcorpus, the Google Books ngrams are already tainted/biased by all kinds of things. <a href="https://fedihum.org/@fotis_jannidis" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@fotis_jannidis</a> did some digging for the German corpus, cf. <a href="https://zenodo.org/doi/10.5281/zenodo.7715377" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank">https://zenodo.org/doi/10.5281/zenodo.7715377</a> (presented at <a href="https://literatur.social/tags/DHd2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#DHd2023</a>). His conclusion is that the German ngrams are corrupted at least since 2000.

Although the definition of a knowledge base might be relaxed enough to enable Wikidata to be indeed counted as such (I will look it up as soon as I will be back home from <a href="https://sigmoid.social/tags/DHd2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#DHd2023</a> to see if it fits in) the main problem is by labelling Wikidata as KB you are raising wrong expectations. And this is what I‘m trying to achieve: expectation management ;-)

Harald SackPlease note (also at <a href="https://sigmoid.social/tags/DHd2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#DHd2023</a> ): <a href="https://sigmoid.social/tags/Wikidata" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#Wikidata</a> is NOT a <a href="https://sigmoid.social/tags/knowledgebase" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#knowledgebase</a>. It‘s structured Data that can be queried via SPARQL (because the MediaWiki CMS content is exported into an RDF-store), but there is no formal semantics (no T-Box, no ontologies, no reasoning). Don‘t get me wrong! Wikidata is a valuable resource that serves very well as reference and authority data also for DH data resources)…and I am more than happy that it exists!
