Anyone know about this app, called Dust? (Note: I don't think it's the secure messaging app). It's apparently for regional burns (mini-Burning Man events). A burn I'm attending is going to do all their organizing, messaging, mapping, etc. using the Dust app.
I fucking hate apps. I mean, some are okay. I hate everything in the world shoving an app at you, mostly because nearly every such app requires a significant chunk of personal data, then needs permissions it shouldn't have, and almost certainly resells my data or keeps it just in case the company needs extra cash.
So... how do I find this stuff out? It's not a major app; maybe a few thousand or tens of thousands of people ever use it, so I'm not finding any info about it by online searching. Admittedly, my google-fu (well, ddg-fu) might be lacking.
If you have any info about how predatory or chill this app is, or hints where I can find such info, I hope you'll share.

The thunderstorms today grew explosively in southern New Mexico and extreme west Texas.
Their outflow gust front (derecho?) pushed into northeast Chihuahua, Mexico.

As northern states were dealing w/ #smoke, a large plume of #Saharan #dust is expected to spread over #GulfCoast states through Thurs. Chenard said the dust had reached parts of #Florida by Wed morning, & was expected to intensify.
“The highest concentrations of the dust is definitely going to be through today & tonight,” he said. “But there will be some at least lower concentrations that linger over Florida, probably into the weekend.”

#Dust was prescient. This film has gotten a bit more gravity because of current events.
the film could be uncomfortable for some because of its graphic / disturbing content.

Mind the dust storms
Another dynamic weather day in New Mexico. (19 May)
This visible light weather satellite loop shows a dust storm in the extreme southern portion of the state getting kicked up by winds from the west. (Normally the wind is from the southwest and blows the dust farther north into more of the state.) West Texas, El Paso, and northern Chihuahua, Mexico were also impacted.
Near the end of the animation loop, just before sunset, you can see a cold front from northern New Mexico pushing south hard, kicking up a gust front as it passes over White Sands in the Tularosa Basin.
The second graphic is a METAR history for Alamogordo airport. 20+ knot winds, with gusts to almost 30 knots, shifted by 80 degrees. This cold front has lots of momentum.
Tonight, parts of New Mexico, high plains and mountains, are under a freeze warning.
Today's (Tuesday, 13 May) dust storm development over the southwest US was extensive.
This visible light weather satellite loop shows several things:
- The worst part of the dust storm developed over southern New Mexico, extreme west Texas (El Paso), and extreme northern Chihuahua, Mexico.
- High winds were quite widespread, and as the sun angle gets low just before sunset you can see dust being kicked up over the northeast corner of Arizona, southern California, and northern Baja California, Mexico.
- The Greer fire in east Arizona, close to the New Mexico state line, is very active and grows quickly with an obvious smoke plume. After sunset, the very end of the satellite loop switches to infrared, and a large black dot (heat signature) replaces the smoke plume.

The dust-storm visibility in Alamogordo, New Mexico remains horrible, with winds gusting up to 58Kts/55Mph/90Km per hour. (Visibility 1/4 mile)
See screen shot for recent METAR reports. Note that the automated weather system says it's raining. That is incorrect. Temperature is 31C and dewpoint is negative 3C...very dry. But all the wind driven dust is confusing the automated weather sensors.

NASA Images Reveal Texan Conditions Not Seen Since 1936
Amid exceptional drought, the city of El Paso, Texas, is facing dusty conditions not seen in nearly 90 years.
NASA has released an image of the latest dust storm captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the space agency's Aqua satellite, on April 27.
