Andrew DonkinGreat to see an exhibition opening tonight that made use of the space in Thames-Side Studios Gallery. This was Chimera, the end of year show by artists on the MASS Sculpture Programme 2024/25. Some lovely eye catching work. Especially the fab tree house created by my new BFF Jeremy of @rootandshoot who just happened to have a copy of he and his kids favorite graphic novel inside. mindsetsSeeing so many gamers, here in the Mastodon realm, makes me reflect upon why I ceased playing <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/VideoGames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#VideoGames</a> after childhood. More or less.Well, it wasn't a fully conscious decision. Partly, it was just incidental to realizing that TV was bad for me; hence I began to purposely live my life without owning a television set (continuing even now). Ergo, I've never possessed a high-quality game console.However, that can't be the whole explanation because I never stopped owning computers.💾In fact, a widely acclaimed computer game, In Search of the Most Amazing Thing, created a very positive, lifelong impression on me. Thus, I had been primed to be a computer game player from an extremely young age.Later, when I was in grade five, I joyfully made my own interactive fiction "game" in BASIC. Similarly, I recall being dazzled by the technologies—if not the plotlines—of King's Quest and, some time afterward, Doom.🐰So what happened? Um, I guess my taste for graphical action/adventure was always fulfilled a tad more by <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/GraphicNovels" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#GraphicNovels</a>. That's the best explanation. The artistic merit of computer games felt inferior to me (in practice, I mean, not in theory).
