"To mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz on [January 27, 2025], Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre applauded Israel’s brutal attacks on Gaza - which is widely considered a genocide - and called for unquestioning loyalty to Israel.

Corey Balsam of [Independent Jewish Voices] told [The Maple] that he found Poilievre’s speech “appalling and a perfect example of how the memory of the Nazi Holocaust can sadly be used to justify fascist and even genocidal policies.”

It is disturbing how Canadian politicians are weaponizing the memory of one genocide to support another. Never again means never again for anyone."

#RIA #Novosti is a state-run media outlet in #Russia. An editorial by Kirill Strelnikov openly calls for #genocide of #Ukrainians. “There is no other option: no one should be left alive in #Ukraine." Regurgitating #Kremlin #propaganda that #Russians have been fed their entire lives, he describes Ukrainians as "happy with their fate". kyivindependent.com/russian-st

The Kyiv Independent · 'No other option' — Russian state media article demands no Ukrainians 'be left alive'By Tim Zadorozhnyy

“To those who can hear me, I say – do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed – the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people.”--Charlie Chaplin, final monologue from The Great Dictator

'This is the grim choice every Palestinian medical worker faces: serve and be targeted, or flee and abandon your patients to die.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a pediatrician from northern Gaza, is one of those still detained. He’s been imprisoned without charge since December. His family tells me he’s still wearing the same winter clothes he was taken in, now threadbare from seven months of captivity. He’s lost an alarming amount of weight on two spoonfuls of rice a day and faced severe abuse. He has no access to medication. No access to medical care. Dr. Hussam should be at a hospital helping to lead Gaza’s recovery. Instead, he’s in a prison cell.

What was his crime? Staying. He refused to abandon newborns on ventilators at Kamal Adwan Hospital. He stayed and saved lives in a hospital under attack. For that, he was kidnapped.

He is not alone.

Dr. Marwan Al-Sultan, one of only two cardiologists left in northern Gaza and director of the Indonesian hospital, was killed this month by a precise Israeli airstrike on his home in Gaza City that targeted the floors where he and his family lived and left the other parts of the block untouched.

Dr. Ahmed Qandeel, a respected senior surgeon and mentor, was killed just over a week ago in an airstrike in Gaza City.

Dr. Adnan Al‑Bursh, a well-known orthopedic surgeon, was abducted, severely beaten in custody (leaving him with broken ribs and unable to walk or use the toilet independently, according to his fellow detainees’ testimony), and found dead under suspicious circumstances in Israeli custody.

(Note from me: These "suspicious circumstances" is what other reports have called "likely raped to death". According to Israeli human rights organisation, HaMoked, "Ofer Prison guards dragged Al-Bursh and dumped him in the prison yard, naked from the waist down, bleeding and unable to stand. Some of the other prisoners carried Al-Bursh to a nearby room, and he died moments later."

The choice to say "suspicious circumstances" was no doubt borne out of extreme caution and fear of retribution.)

There are too many stories to recount.

As the UN Human Rights Office said, ''The killing, detention and enforced disappearance of health workers in Gaza, in parallel with the systematic attacks and destruction of hospitals and other medical facilities, has had a devastating impact on the people.''

Each time a Palestinian doctor is killed or detained, it isn’t just a personal loss – it’s a collapse of community care. Patients are left without treatment. Wards are left without leadership. Babies in incubators lose their only chance of survival. A respected and dignified member of society is stripped of protected status. The death of a physician in Gaza means dozens, sometimes hundreds, of preventable deaths in the weeks and months that follow.'

Nigel Farage’s DOGE firebrands are already at war

Reform UK is mounting an Elon Musk-inspired bid to slash state “waste.” The fireworks have already begun.

MAIDSTONE, England — Half an hour into a Kent County Council meeting, council leader Linden Kemkaran has already taken aim at trans women in a “wig and a skirt” and migrants “invading” Britain.

This is the Garden of England — home to farmers, commuters, vineyards, seaside poverty, rich London escapees, and the beaches where tens of thousands of migrants have landed in inflatable dinghies — and it now belongs to Reform UK.

How #incel language infected the mainstream internet — and brought its toxicity with it - “…the basic structure of the incel filter bubble mirrors all other filter bubbles online. Those who are further in the in- group are more likely to dominate discourse, creating and spreading words for those on the periphery. As users familiarize themselves with the group vocabulary, they identify more with that group, and more readily adopt language to fit shared social needs.” theverge.com/internet-culture/ #sociology #Internet #4Chan #hate #culture

Engadget: Grok sure seems antisemitic after its recent update. “Last Friday, Elon Musk said that X’s built-in chatbot had been ‘significantly’ improved. ‘You should notice a difference when you ask Grok questions,’ Musk said on X. As it turns out, X users are noticing a difference. Over the last couple days, Grok seems to have taken a hard turn toward antisemitism.”

Holding up cardboard signs and "disrupting the arms trade" with strikes and protests is now considered terrorism in the UK. Of course this law has nothing to do with the action of holding up cardboard signs, it has everything to do with the message that is written on them, that you oppose genocide and stand with Palestine for independence and sovereignty from military occupation.

Terrorism is a serious offense, for which Canada has considered (under Conservative governments, of course) stripping citizenship for. It should not be applied to holding up cardboard signs with "the wrong message".

This is a commonality of all authoritarian anti-protest legislation. Just like how Alberta has made it illegal to "block infrastructure" in protest as long as you're blocking oil corporations on Indigenous treaty land to force them to uphold their legal responsibility to consultation with Indigenous leaders, but not if you're white owner/operators in multi-million dollar trucks blocking a quarter billion dollars worth of trade for divisive politics, stockpiling assault weapons to use against the RCMP.

It has nothing to do with the fact that you're protesting or HOW you're protesting, but everything to do with WHO you're protesting or WHAT you're protesting for.

'“A total of 29 arrests were made during this afternoon’s protest in support of Palestine Action in Parliament Square. They remain in custody,” the Metropolitan Police wrote on X on Saturday evening.

In an earlier statement, the police force said the protesters were detained “on suspicion of offences under the Terrorism Act 2000”.

“They have been taken into custody. Palestine Action is a proscribed group and officers will act where criminal offences are committed,” it said.

Campaign group Defend Our Juries said in an earlier statement that a priest and a number of health professionals were among those detained. The protesters had held cardboard signs, reading: “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.”

“We commend the Counter Terrorism police for their decisive action in protecting the people of London from some cardboard signs opposing the genocide in Gaza and expressing support for those taking action to prevent it,” a Defend Our Juries spokesperson said.

Passersby condemned the arrests as police intervened in the demonstration at around noon local time (11:00 GMT).

“Met Police, you are puppets of the Zionist state” and “leave them alone”, some were quoted as shouting by the Press Association, the British news agency.

Other supporters, not directly involved in the Palestine Action protest, shouted, “Who do you protect? Who do you serve?” and “British police off our streets”.'

Two 19-year old Mexican camp counselors protected the 20 Camp Mystic girls under their care. Mexico sent rescue workers to Texas before the Texas government. Love, tolerance, and inclusion wins.

All while US Republicans revel at the idea of alligators snacking on 65 million Latino-Americans escaping from the concentration camp they're putting them in. While 80% of 10 million Israelis call for the extermination of an entire race of 5 million people living on the land Israel has colonized, based on their ethnic origin. Openly calling out for the deaths of their offspring so that their offspring cannot create offspring. Also while Ukrainian children are being kidnapped into Russian camps where they have their ethnicity and culture stripped from them as Indigenous children had done to them in residential schools in the Americas. This is ethnic cleansing.

It is time that we must choose our sides now, if we stand on the side of hate and division, or on the side of love and inclusion. There is no longer an in-between, and apathy is complicity.
