Maltimore<p>Upgrade to KDE Plasma 6.4 went smoothly. I didn't notice too many changes for now, which is a good thing. No errors/bugs detected.</p><p>The rounded button corners are nice, and Discover launches and checks for updates *much* faster. The slowness of Discover wasn't really a problem before, but of course it's always nice to save a few seconds. It has been officially <a href="https://kde.org/announcements/plasma/6/6.5.0/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">announced</a> in the KDE website that stated that KDE was “on the verge of making it big for the general public” and that it has reached the inflection point. This upgrade turns your awesome desktop to a more fantastic desktop that adds new features while incorporating many improvements.</p><p>KDE Plasma 6.5 brings more awesome features, including, but not limited to:</p><ul><li><strong>Automatic theme transitions</strong>: it allows you to configure when your desktop automatically switches between light and dark theme variants.</li><li><strong>Caret text navigation</strong>: The zoom panel now follows the caret when you’re typing something in an application.</li><li><strong>KRunner fuzzy search</strong>: KRunner’s search function now finds your items more efficiently, even when you’re writing it wrong.</li><li><strong>Rounded bottom window corners</strong>: Your windows now have rounded bottom windows corners to achieve consistency in look.</li><li><strong>Pinned clipboard items</strong>: You can now pin your favorite or frequently used clipboard items at the top of the list.</li></ul><p>Improvements to the accessibility feature have also been added to this version of KDE Plasma desktop so that color-sensitive users can use the grayscale color filter to apply to their desktop. Overlay plane support has been added to reduce CPU usage when displaying full-screen content on your screen, if you have a compatible GPU.</p><p>Linux distributions will pick up this desktop environment, depending on their package update schedule and policy. Middle click it, and I can use Peazip as an alternative after I install that.</p><p>Ark is not as good or stable at unpacking BIG archives as peazip, but Ark has a simple more decluttered interface so it's great to use for smaller files. </p><p>With this, I easily get the best of both worlds without even having to think about a right click "open with" menu. Little conveniences like this add up.</p>

Aptivi<p><strong>KDE Plasma 6.5 will be released next&nbsp;week!</strong></p><p>The KDE Plasma 6.5 desktop <a href="https://blogs.kde.org/2025/10/18/this-week-in-plasma-plasma-6.5-is-nigh-and-kde-is-29-years-old-help-us-celebrate/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">will be released</a> next week, because it already has reached the end of development stage with a lot of bug fixes and general improvements, in addition to performance boosts and feature additions, to enhance your desktop experience with added performance to make your PC snappier than before.</p><p>KDE celebrates its 29th birthday event by releasing the KDE Plasma 6.5 desktop on the 21st of October to the general public. Additionally, people are encouraged to donate to the KDE project <a href="https://kde.org/fundraisers/yearend2025/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">fundraiser</a> as a way to celebrate the birthday and to help the project reach its goals. Donations are in Euros.</p><p>Alongside the birthday celebration, the KDE development team started development of Plasma 6.6 by introducing some of the new features, such as the new color scheme for the Application Dashboard widget. Dark and light modes are supported, so this widget looks more uniform. However, polishing of the design is needed to match the aesthetics of the KDE Plasma desktop.
