This is the summer in which I finally stopped buying mousetraps a dozen at a time (rough cost, $1 each), and started buying them a gross at a time (rough cost, $0.40 each). The quality of the standard Victor mousetraps seems to have decreased, plus the little staples holding the metal bits in loosen up in the desert dry here, so most of the time, the traps are single use. And even reusing traps when possible, I have used ten traps so far just in June. #NewMexico #mice #hantavirus

Researchers get viable #mice by editing #DNA from two #sperm
Altering chemical modifications of DNA lets the DNA from two sperm make a #mouse.
It took until earlier this year, when a very specific combination of 20 different gene edits and deletions enabled mice generated using the #chromosomes from two sperm cells to survive to adulthood.

A pilot project follows the adaptation of rodents while offering children education in ethology.

The project, named Merci – for "Muridés en retraite chez les instits" ("Retired Rodents with Teachers") – was conceived by Ethosph'R, an organisation working with professionals concerned with mitigating the impacts of their research.
