Astro Hawk (Ian Kluft) ✅🚀🛰️<p>False alarm: <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/NoctilucentClouds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NoctilucentClouds</span></a> are elusive. For some moments, I thought it might have been starting to happen this evening. But it was a trick of the eye, with gaps in darker lower clouds looking brighter in comparison. It would need to become fully-illuminated white to be <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/NLC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NLC</span></a>. This was tonight's view from northeast Portland, Oregon. Some darker low clouds are with local incoming weather. The reddish haze is smoke drifting in from forest fires in Russia. <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/SpaceWeather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SpaceWeather</span></a> <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/weather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>weather</span></a> <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/PNW" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PNW</span></a></p>

Astro Hawk (Ian Kluft) ✅🚀🛰️<p>Usually <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/NoctilucentClouds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NoctilucentClouds</span></a> are only seen beyond 50° latitude (north or south) in early summer. It was remarkable to spot it in the June 9, 2019 outbreak from 37°N! Now that I live in Portland, Oregon, it's more likely to see from 45.5°N. And now that I know they have begun for this season, I'll be watching more often. <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/NLC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NLC</span></a> <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/SpaceWeather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SpaceWeather</span></a></p>
Astro Hawk (Ian Kluft) ✅🚀🛰️<p>I've seen <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/NoctilucentClouds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NoctilucentClouds</span></a> once. I wasn't looking for them. There was an outbreak on June 9, 2019 which brought them all the way down to central California. I spotted them during a night bicycle ride, and recognized I should not normally be seeing sunlight on any clouds that late. I was one of only two people I was aware of who posted pictures on social media from the Bay Area. <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/NLC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NLC</span></a> <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/SpaceWeather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SpaceWeather</span></a></p>
Astro Hawk (Ian Kluft) ✅🚀🛰️<p>To recognize <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/NoctilucentClouds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NoctilucentClouds</span></a>, it has to be white to electric blue light reflecting on thin clouds around an hour after sunset or before sunrise when the sun is well below the horizon. These mysterious clouds are at 80km/50mi altitude (80% of the way to space) making them very difficult to research, and therefore not well understood. They are also special because they occur on both Earth and Mars. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noctilucent_cloud" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noctiluc</span><span class="invisible">ent_cloud</span></a> <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/NLC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NLC</span></a> <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/SpaceWeather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SpaceWeather</span></a></p>
Astro Hawk (Ian Kluft) ✅🚀🛰️<p>Apparently the northern hemisphere's <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/NoctilucentCloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NoctilucentCloud</span></a> season is opening, which was expected around this time of year. If you're near enough to polar latitudes (definitely 50°N+, maybe lower if there's an outbreak), look for them during morning or evening astronomical twilight, reflecting sunlight from 80km/50mi altitude in the direction of the sunset or sunrise. <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/@Fettlaus/114616634713194665" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">social.tchncs.de/@Fettlaus/114</span><span class="invisible">616634713194665</span></a> <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/NLC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NLC</span></a> <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/NLCalert" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NLCalert</span></a> <a href="https://spacey.space/tags/SpaceWeather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SpaceWeather</span></a></p>
