This week's E-Sylum also has an article asking the question if there are #coins or #medallions etc with #authors, #books or #libraries pictured on them: https://www.coinbooks.org/v28/esylum_v28n32.html#article15 The article lists many, but here's mine (as well as the previously posted Louis Braille coin) a Cercle Du #Bibliophile medallion from #France. See my previous posting of it for notes: https://historians.social/@CoinOfNote/111957824195654425

It's always great to see the story behind the coin. E-Sylum this week has an article with a video on the 2009 United States Louis Braille $1 coin.

Today's piece I thought I'd share is this 19th Century Baptism Medallion from #Germany. Featuring #Jesus on one side, and someone being baptised on the other side, it's in great condition compared to some I've seen.
Learn more about the #medallion, #baptism, and explore heads and tails in the full write up: https://coinofnote.com/19th-century-german-baptism-medallion/

5 Rappen - Switzerland
One Bolivar
Venezuela 1967
Sent the photos to a Venezuelan friend who said in the 70s with this coin he could buy a coke and chips.
Here is a #medallion featuring #Pope Pius XI - head of the Catholic #church from 1922 - 1939 - he oversaw the creation of #Vatican City as an independent country (previously part of the Papal States from 756 until conquered by Italy in 1870).
The reverse reads "Ricordo Di Roma" or "Memory of #Rome", common on souvenirs.
No post for this, but here is a Pius XI coin I did write up: https://coinofnote.com/1931-vatican-5-centesimi/

Jim Lovell, #Apollo XIII mission commander passed away this week aged 97. #ApolloXII would have been the third #moon landing until an on-board explosion & fight for survival. They returned to earth on April 17, 1970: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_13
Here is a #medallion commemorating the mission (I don't know anything else about this piece, so happy for any additional information).

Here's an interesting one I saw from "The Sized" on facebook. Not a coin but a different kind of #bullion: "A 14 karat gold LEGO brick was given out in the early 80s to employees who had worked at the German LEGO factory for over 25-years. They are valued at over $15,000. These standard-sized 2x4 LEGO bricks were given out 1-2 times a year from 1979-81"

I haven't posted much about #coins #medals #numismatics lately from my own collection (1 item today https://historians.social/@CitizenWald/114978503496050003), but by chance, I came across this news story, which can celebrate the second anniversary of the very valuable @CoinOfNote here,

Happy Birthday Coin of Note!
The site turns two today - ok, I posted the other day the anniversary of the first post, but today was when I finished setting up posts for each of the coins in the cover image and sharing the site on social media!
And what are the coins of the cover image? They're all documented here: https://coinofnote.com/about-coin-of-note/
I've been enjoying learning and sharing it with you ever since!

We pause today to reflect on the 80th anniversary of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima. A moment we never want to repeat.
What can we do, in our own corner of the world, to help foster peace today?
Here is a medal from Numista marking the 50th anniversary of the bombing, showing the Hiroshima Peace Memorial (Genbaku Dome), the skeletal remains of the former Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall.

Here's a book which looks very interesting: Greek Coin Art by Peter Jones: https://www.coinbooks.org/v28/esylum_v28n31.html#article3
The E-Sylum article notes it as available from Amazon, BookBaby.com and Barns & Noble, although it looks like it is only available in the US at this stage.

It's the #DayOfHelios / Sol's Day / #Sunday!
"All the Children of Helios (the Sun) were easy to recognise, even from a distance, by their flashing eyes, which shot out rays of golden light."

Archaeologists in #Germany have uncovered a hoard of coins from the 30 Years' War. The coins from a large area, raise questions, not least of which: why are there only three in a large copper cauldron?
And from me: How many coins does it take to become a "#hoard"? One #coin is usually simple reported as "A coin was found...", so evidently, it's either two #coins, or three. Leave your answers in the comments!

Evans Lifts was a lift or #elevator company in the #UK. Founded in 1919, the company was bought out by Otis in 1982. This is a tool check. Employee 47 would keep these (I have a set of 1-4, I'm not sure how many each person would have had) through their time at the company. When they needed a tool, they hung a #check on the peg in place of it, so anyone else knew who had that tool.

Two years ago today, I published the first piece on the Coin of Note site! A #medallion, depicting the patron #saint of #numismatics and coin collecting, Saint Eligius. Here it is: https://coinofnote.com/saint-eligius-medallion/
Here's to many more years!
