“Working on Task was perhaps the most musically rewarding experience of my career.
[...] The story contains a massive expanse of emotional range, and we aimed for a score to accompany the scope of his writing.
We talked at length about scale and density: when to be huge, when to be small, when to push in, and when to rest."

A quotation from Hannah Arendt

What stuck in the minds of these men who had become murderers was simply the notion of being involved in something historic, grandiose, unique (“a great task that occurs once in two thousand years”), which must therefore be difficult to bear. This was important, because the murderers were not sadists or killers by nature; on the contrary, a systematic effort was made to weed out all those who derived physical pleasure from what they did. The troops of the Einsatzgruppen had been drafted from the Armed S.S., a military unit with hardly more crimes in its record than any ordinary unit of the German Army, and their commanders had been chosen by Heydrich from the S.S. élite with academic degrees. Hence the problem was how to overcome not so much their conscience as the animal pity by which all normal men are affected in the presence of physical suffering. The trick used by Himmler — who apparently was rather strongly afflicted by these instinctive reactions himself — was very simple and probably very effective; it consisted in turning these instincts around, as it were, in directing them toward the self. So that instead of saying: What horrible things I did to people!, the murderers would be able to say: What horrible things I had to watch in the pursuance of my duties, how heavily the task weighed upon my shoulders!

Task, the new TV show follow-up to Mare of Easttown (that is in no way actually connected), seems to be really good based on the first episode. Stellar acting. Top notch writing that you'd expect after watching Mare.

But holy shit is it bleak. Like, I need some time to just breathe and let the show energy slowly evaporate from my body after watching it kind of bleak. I will need serious prep for the next episode.

With Chat GPT, did you know that you could tell it to get any new information about something on a recurring basis, and it will automatically do so? On top of that, it will send you a notification every time it does so. Now I think you have to have a paid subscription in order to do this. For example, a local family pizza place here has a pizza of the month, so instead of me having to go to the website at the beginning of every month and navigate the site until I find it, I just asked Chat GPT to check the site and retrieve the information automatically. Chat GPT refers to things like this as creating a task. So now, at the beginning of every month, Chat GPT will go to that website, retrieve the information, send me a notification letting me know that it has done so, and put the information in the app for me to lookk at myself. Not sure how much I will use it, but its a pretty cool feature! #ChatGPT #Assign #Task #Feature

A quotation from Shakespeare

ARIEL: All hail, great master! Grave sir, hail! I come
To answer thy best pleasure. Be ’t to fly,
To swim, to dive into the fire, to ride
On the curled clouds, to thy strong bidding task
   Ariel and all his quality.

Tempest, Act 1, sc. 2, l. 224ff (1.2.224-228) (1611)
