Reminder with respect to the pending #genocide #trial against #Israel (Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza strip), in front of the International Court of Justice #ICJ:

If you had added July 28th 2025 as the deadline for submission of the counter-memorial of the state of #Israel: that was the initial deadline.

You may have missed that the ICJ had extended that deadline to January 12th 2026, already back in April. Before that date, Israel will not have to file anything.

Why? Back in April, the ICJ accepted Israel's claim it was running out of resources, since it had to face so many legal proceedings in parallel:

My sympathy for capacity issues of genocidal governments is exactly zero, especially since the Genocide Convention was meant for preventing genocide, too.

What exactly the court is hoping to "prevent", still, after January 2026 is beyond me. (I did not expect the case to be decided within months, though)
