Good day!
The advantage of where I live is that I left home, went to the hospital, had my mammogram, and made it home in less than an hour.
And still it’s raining.
This is a true soaker rain, something I haven’t seen here in years. We really needed it.

I’m off for a mammogram soon.
There are those in healthcare who have your best interests at heart.
There are those who view illness as good for business. Those people stole a third of my lungs—& then my insurance paid minimally.
That’s cooperation.

Today is another day of me racing against the clock to get everything done. There’s always a busier day waiting in the wings.
Go, go, go.
Until Friday, when I’ll go on another hike because the weather will be cool & cloudy.
Then, finally, I can breathe.

I had never finished a #writing job ahead of schedule, and I just did. It may come to nothing (or not), but in the meantime I have a new happiness, small and concrete at the same time.

This is supposed to be our 2nd driest months of the year.
Instead, we’ve gotten rain every other day for the last week.
Don’t get me wrong, we desperately need the moisture, & our temps are exquisitely cool.
Our normal weather patterns have disappeared.

I hiked yesterday.
I learned that autumn is whispering, but it’s silent in town, you have to venture into the mountains.
I also learned, yet again, not to trust the weather forecast. Cloudy with drizzle? More like unrelenting sun.
Once home, it rained.

Our weather change came late yesterday with fanfare in the form of thunderstorms & heavy rain (for here).
It also brought cooler temperatures. The air coming through the windows is chilly.
I’m weighing my desire to hike against the unstable weather.

This is our last day of relatively hot weather for at a short time. Our chance of rain increasing from zero to slight.
Good weather for hiking, for escaping to anywhere that isn’t here, a place that will set aside troubles.

I’ve decided to patent our weather this year & sell it. I can’t remember when we were last spared a heat dome.
It’s as if, after an unusually warm winter & spring, a switch flipped & we leaped from May to August.
Apparently, anything goes now. Kinda scary.

After rain, & over two hours spent hiking through the forest in the canyon, the way ahead opened up.

My knees debated holding me up.
And I was the only human being in that place. Alone, but not lonely.

We seem to be settling into a seasonal weather pattern, which is far better than the epic heat we’ve suffered the last few years.
I don’t fear August heat here like I do July heat. The days are shorter. It takes until afternoon to heat up.

I’d ignored the weather forecast because the temperature was ideal, upper 60s (+19C). It stayed that cool, too.
Yet, even after my big day, I returned home & finished editing a chapter.

This was one of those hikes where it’s impossible to see everything.
The Bitterroot Mountains never, ever disappoint. I also didn’t see anyone until on the way back.
