OUTDATED⚠️
Mozilla bought the Android email app K-9 (which didn’t include any trackers) and integrated trackers as part of ‘s rebranding under the name.

They even made it opt-out instead of opt-in. Their defense for breaking the law: ”we wouldn’t have enough data if we obeyed the law.“

It doesn’t matter whether you ”anonymized“ the data or not: If you want to extract data from someone’s device to yours, you may do so only if they knowingly consented.

@clovis haha oui j’ai vu ton boost j’ai pensé à toi direct avant de voir que c’était justement toi qui avait boosté^^

@davidculley

@davidculley Good news, although the carpet has been dirtied enough that some will still not touch it, even now. Sad, really.

@davidculley in fairness, it's more acceptable for a beta to contain telemetry - specifically debugging telemetry - than it is for a release version, since the whole point of a beta is "this isn't quite finished, we still need to find the rest of the bugs, use it at your own risk"

...of course i might just be a relic of a better, vanished time

@thamesynne It’s against the law to use telemetry if you don’t first ask for consent, regardless whether it’s a beta or not. At least in European countries such as Germany.

And they didn’t remove the telemetry because the beta is over, but because the shitstorm was so big. They’d have left telemetry in the final release if users hadn’t been so vocally angry about this.

@davidculley does that mean from now on they're blind wrt. how actual users out there are using their product?
