@gerrymcgovern I am continually astounded at the willingness of governments and companies to shovel billions of euros every year towards in the US. Where is the homegrown European ? Why can't , or compete with and ?

@oliversampson @gerrymcgovern As long as enterprise level buyers look towards the usa they will not see, nor buy, European products and services.

@oliversampson @gerrymcgovern Because they are bureaucratic as hell, they do not understand the notion of zero deployment friction. This is a failure of understanding customer needs.

@bert_hubert @oliversampson @gerrymcgovern It would make for a good benchmark: given a credit card and a mail address, in how many minutes can we spin up a VM, get an office environment etc deployed with which platform?

@oliversampson @gerrymcgovern Because legislation.

Namely https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strafgesetzbuch#%C2%A7_202c:_Preparation_of_data_espionage_or_data_interception is stifling a community of IT experts.

On top of that, the infrastructure is with other companies (say, Hetzner).

Companies like Bosch or Daimler consider themselves to be part of the engineering industry and only lately invest in IT skills. The transition emerged in form of data grabbing — which comes in conflict with privacy regulations such as GDPR.

@oliversampson @gerrymcgovern Regarding SAP: their cloud transition isn't appreciated by the community because it feels more like Adobe:

Extracting as much value as possible by locking in customers. Not by adjusting their software to business requirements (very much the opposite).

Regarding Siemens: looking at train infrastructure doesn't raise my faith in them
