It shouldn't surprise you that they stop you from trying. Imagine a Wikipedia editor trying to remove their edits.

However, what it does give you is the right to host _all_ of SE elsewhere. To fork it, if SE violates its contract with the community. This is how SE was always designed to work. From an interview with Spolsky:

Doesn't matter because just take the latest CC-wiki download that we provided and go start your own site saying, you know what, this is gonna be the clean version. And | think a lot of people will follow you. We very, very deliberately built Stack Overflow in a way that there wouldn't be any chance of locking and we're pretty much doing the same thing with Stack Exchange.

@pbloem this is super interesting so theres nothing stopping us from making a totally free fedi version of all of StackExchange content on here without their bullshit?

@liaizon Yeah. Some people have already made start at codidact.org

It's not federated, and the SE content isn't fully copied over, but the more nonsense the SE management pulls, the more of this we'll see.
