Reading « This Week in Rust » 601 (28th May), there is this item:

The #GCC compiler backend can now fully bootstrap the #Rust compiler!

Wow!

Then it points to some Reddit messages. Do you know more on the current status?

Nothing coming in on #mutualaid since Monday makes me worried. I am so very grateful to those who can afford to #help, but yeah I need to ask again because the debts are bigger than that ^^;

Please send funds, I shall return the favour by dodging bankruptcy and utter ruination of all I am aiming to do for you all, and by trying to make the process interesting enough that it feels at least a little worthwhile to you.

Reading « Are you still using OCaml 4.08 or earlier? », as a scientific practitioner I ask myself:

Well, 5 years is an eternity in the computing world – OCaml 4.08 is from 2019 and OCaml 4.07 from 2018, IIRC – but it’s peanuts when we speak about being able to audit and verify some scientific papers relying on these versions.

And there is the balance with the carbon footprint.

The question does not seem to retain 4.08 but to be able to rebuild from scratch 4.08, i.e., being able to rebuild all its dependencies. Thus it asks about the #bootstrap of the compiler and how we preserve it.

Cool. I've managed to fix four problems (that I know are there, so it's driving me bug-fuck, but nobody else would notice) on my vanity site.

*Now* I can move forward with adding some visual elements that do nothing but are snarky and aesthetically pleasing.

Doing this in my theme is going to be interesting (years ago I used #BootStrap and this would have been trivial).

Still thinking about my "Reading Now" content type so I can post books I'm reading.

I want to create a #Drupal 11 theme based on #Bootstrap 5. The problem is, that most of the themes available have a real overhead in theme settings. I don't want a base theme for my theme rather implement bootstrap directly. The only thing I need is a kind of package of suitable #twig templates or #sdc so I don't have to write everything from scratch
Do you have any #recommendations for me?

Thanks in advance 🙂

#Bootstrap fun: #libassuan upgraded its symbols separately from its #soname in a patch-level release (with several months in between!)
On #ArchLinux we had upgraded to the weird version that has a soname change but no symbol change.
Since #pacman requires the library transitively via #gpgme, there now is no clean way to upgrade this without patching all consumers in some intermediate step. 🗑️ 🔥
(The staging build environment would otherwise have a broken pacman and thus not be functional).

I am picking a #CSS UI framework for a web app (Django, htmx, old-school server-side rendering), and I thought: “There ought to be something more hip and modern than #Bootstrap!”. But after a quick web search, it seems like there isn't? What are y'all using that is not React-/Tailwind-based and does not require a build step?

Continued thread

But trees never get it all, why, as soon as there is conflict in the #bootstrap pseudoreplicates we used to establish branch (!!!, not "node", like many still write) support, I like to sum them up as a #ConsensusNetwork

Which, in this case, has the typical form one can expect in the face of fast ancient radiation. Eases the decision making about which clade should be numbered as a main one.
