I was just sent this photo, supposedly taken in 1994: Björn Beutel, developer of the Malaga language, and myself are working in the CLUE (Computational Linguistics University of Erlangen) lab.
I’m a bit hesitant to tag this #retrocomputing ;-)

… statt. :) Wir freuen uns!
Dear NLP folks, if you have an account in the Fediverse (e.g., Mastodon), you can now follow us by this handle: @starsem.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy. To do this seamlessly, simply go to our followers page (fed.brid.gy/bsky/starsem...), put your Fediverse address and click Follow!

As long as you...
(1) host and run it yourself,
(2) it's open source,
(3) it's not trained on art or personal data,
(4) it's not constantly re-trained at extreme energy costs to be "up to date",
(5) it's not advertised as an information source, therapy, search engine, artificial intelligence or anything else it's not,
there's literally no ethical issue in #LLM. It's just a mathematical language model.
I wonder how #hashtags would have been developed differently if they had been invented and popularised by people speaking a #language with strongly marked cases.
If I post 'Sauce mit Pilzen' (German for 'sauce with mushrooms'), and I would like to tag the mushrooms, I can't just go '#Pilzen', because '#Pilzen' is a different hashtag from '#Pilze'. Let alone #Pilzes and #Pilz.
Would we tag things with #SemanticWeb URIs?

Hey there!
I'm #newHere at the Localization Café.
I have been working as a freelancer for some time, translating and localising what mostly ends up being #videoGames. My language pair is #English and #German.
Outside my #freelancing work, I am a #linguistics and #compLing student who is currently finishing up my dual degree.
In the future I would like to work as an in-house localisation worker in the #gaming industry; fingers crossed, since #gamedev is a difficult field to get into! :)

Ab jetzt exklusiv #neuhier auf Mastodon.
A reminder that I'm still accepting queries from prospective PhD students for Fall 2025! If you're interested in #CompLing or #NLProc for humour, historical online corpora, or #Indigenous languages, please get in touch! https://clam.cs.umanitoba.ca/open-positions
An #introduction to you lovely people here in #mastodon is long overdue now:
I'm currently a #PhD candidate, research assistant, and associate lecturer at #LancasterUniversity.
I love all things #corpuslinguistics, #stats, and interpretable #CompLing.
I'm passionate about developing new, explainable methodologies and workflows so we can analyse (existing) linguistic data in new ways and further our understanding of language and the mind
#Introduction with #Hashtags
#Hi, I work on #ComputationalLinguistics (#CompLing): I develop models of human #LanguageLearning and #LanguageUse, and I test them on #RealWorldData. One focus of my work has been on #Lexical #Semantics, looking at how a word's #Meaning can be learnt from #Context, and indeed what kind of #MeaningRepresentation to use in the first place. This work is #Interdisciplinary, drawing on #Linguistics #PhilosophyOfLanguage #CognitiveScience #MachineLearning
