Pō == night, darkness, obscurity, the realm of the gods
Do click through and listen to the host listing the days of the week in Hawaiian, or rather the nights of the week: “Pōʻakahi, Pōʻalua, Pōʻakolu a pēlā aku,” where “a pēlā aku” means “and so on.”

Pō means: night, darkness, obscurity, the realm of the gods. The Hawaiian day begins at nightfall, so instead of using the word for the days of the week, as is done in English, we use pō for nights, and then modify it to make the nights of the week. For example Pōʻakahi or Pōʻalua.

Learning a new language can feel like stepping out of the darkness and into the light. ✨
At first, everything is unfamiliar… confusing… even a little overwhelming.
But each word you learn, each sentence you understand—it’s like flipping on a switch.
Bit by bit, the darkness fades, and suddenly, you see.

Keep going. Keep shining. 💡🖤➡️🤍
Hebrew—or any language—isn’t just learned. It’s revealed.

Just some more thoughts on #darkness and #moonlight

In the pandemic lockdown, UK government talked about "things that happen after dark" ( meaning theatre & music gatherings) as dangerous, as if the dark was to blame.

But we tend to think of moonlight as romantic, beautiful.

The next few days, as we move towards the new moon, are dark, and on three of the four days I have #RM solos. Reflective of his writing rather than his dangerness #BTS #moon

"Approximately 70 percent of mammals are nocturnal but, like the badger, can no longer depend on the darkness of night to survive. As humans have increasingly encroached upon their territory, artificial light at night has followed."

A quotation from Euripides

HECUBA: For from darkness and the endearments of the night mortals have their keenest joys.

[ἙΚΆΒΗ: ἐκ τοῦ σκότου τε τῶν τε νυκτερησίων
φίλτρων μεγίστη γίγνεται βροτοῖς χάρις.]

Euripides (485?-406? BC) Greek tragic dramatist
Hecuba [Hekabe; Ἑκάβη], l. 831ff (c. 424 BC) [tr. Coleridge (1938)]

"Why should we love our enemies? The first reason is pretty obvious. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction. So when Jesus says 'Love your enemies' [Matt. 5:44], he is setting forth a profound and ultimately inescapable admonition. Have we not come to such an impasse in the modern world that we must love our enemies – or else? The chain reaction of evil – hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars – must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation." – Martin Luther King Jr., Strength to Love (Philadelphia: Fortress Press, 1977), 53.
