Thunderstorm created a mini blackout. Only about 2 seconds but cut the internet, interrupting my partner's class she teaches. Are blackouts, even very short ones, more frequent than in past decades? They seem to be, albeit shorter than the old and infrequent ones. Is there a reason?

China to invest $800B in creaking #ElectricityGrid to speed up green transition

"#China has already expanded its grid enormously — it has the world’s highest proportion of power lines under 10 years old, and accounts for more than a third of the world’s grid expansion in the last decade — but its generation capacity and demand, notably for data centers, electric vehicles, and AI, have all gone up even faster."

How a simple fix could double the size of the #US #electricitygrid
"There is one big thing holding the #UnitedStates back from a pollution-free #electricity grid running on #wind, #solar and battery power," writes the Washington Post. "Not enough #powerlines... the nation's sagging, out-of-date power lines are being overwhelmed — slowing the transition to clean energy and the fight against #climatechange."

How a simple fix could double the size of the U.S. #ElectricityGrid

"Carbon-fiber wires don’t sag as much in the heat. That means that they can take up to double the amount of power as the old lines.

It could also cost half as much as building an entirely new line and avoid the headaches of trying to get every state, city and even landowner along the route to agree to a new project."
