Saturday afternoon sound design build: Made this small foley box from a slab of asphalt and some terrace decking scraps.
There’s feet to lift the slab slightly off the floor, abt 5-7 cm, enough to put a small mic underneath. Tho it remains to be tested if the mic position is any good.
Carry handle is bit of a joke really - feels like it can barely take the weight. Not like there’s need to move this around much. Slab measures abt 26x45 cm, 6 cm thick. #Diy #Foley #Recording

This weekend I'm doing live foley for the second time in my life and I'm so excited!
Quintessential office phone handset hangup sound effect/foley (digital, not when a western electric 2500 or trimline phone is seen):
Hang up the handset on a Nortel Meridian
Also I do plan on recording some samples of these xD also need to record it at several intensities/variations. Gentle/Standard/Messy or sloppy/Hard/Slammed/etc.
Quintessential office chair rolling across ground foley / sound effect:
Sit on and roll across a hardwood or low pile office carpet floor with a Herman Miller Aeron.

There are many Australian animals whose calls end up in films, playing other things. Koalas are very popular as dinosaurs and large reptiles.

Got woken up at 5am this morning by a very chatty kookaburra outside my window. Rude.
For non-Australians, you already know what a kookaburra sounds like! It's the sound of "monkeys" in Hollywood movies.
It's a very strange experience as an Aussie, watching something set in the jungle and there's just a random kookaburra there.
So following on from the fascinating FCPX feature film workflow doc shared by @samplue I subbed to #Soundly today and holy shit it's like magic.
$15/mth, search for a sound, audition it, highlight the section you want, *add your choice of physical environment/reverb*, and drag out of their window into your timeline
