Profoundly Nerdy<p>Fellow hams, I'm suddenly getting the itch to understand RF circuit design. Basically, I want to be able to look at the sbitx or ubitx RF board diagrams and understand what I'm looking at. Currently, I can't even be sure I'm orienting the page correctly. Is there a good resource that will take me from zero to at least that level of comprehension? Thanks!<br><a href="https://bitbang.social/tags/hamradio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hamradio</span></a> <a href="https://bitbang.social/tags/sbitx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sbitx</span></a> <a href="https://bitbang.social/tags/ubitx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ubitx</span></a> <a href="https://bitbang.social/tags/Amateurradio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Amateurradio</span></a></p>
Pete NS0D<p>Here's a monday tip for hams and computer folks - something I've discovered:</p><p>If you use Android phones, DON'T use .local as your lan pseudo-TLD.</p><p>Android doesn't work correctly with .local - use .lan or something else instead, set it in the DHCP section of your router.</p><p>Otherwise you may have trouble accessing those .local devices with your phone.</p><p>Have a great Monday! 73<br>NS0D <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/hamr" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hamr</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/hamradio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hamradio</span></a></p>
The Original Stripey Goodness<p>I'm really REALLY bad about clutter. Like, I am concerned that I might be 'hoarder' levels of bad.<br>My current idea is "organize all of the stuff" into things like sorter cases (thank you, Maggie!). But that has stalled while I build storage for the storage.<br>I'm also thinking that I want activities built into kits that fold out like cabinets of curiosities - like a <a href="https://meow.social/tags/hamradio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hamradio</span></a> field case which simplifies carrying and deployment (IDK maybe I have AN/PRC-119 envy)<br>Or a <a href="https://meow.social/tags/miniatures" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>miniatures</span></a> <a href="https://meow.social/tags/wargaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wargaming</span></a> making-station kind of like that old toy repair guy in Toy Story 3, with a little setup for brushes and airbrush and particulate capture which all just tucks away neatly when not in use.</p><p>I am mostly dreaming. building fine woodworking joinery like that (no really - I don't mean laser-cut birch ply) is outside of my skillset.</p>
N3VEM<p>Long story short, I have an old, but working, Fire Alarm Control Panel. For those not in the industry, it's basically a fancy purpose built controller for fire stuff, but they also have a bunch of generic inputs and outputs that can be programmed for pretty much whatever.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/HamRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HamRadio</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/DIY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DIY</span></a> crowd - any ideas on weird, out of the ordinary projects that it could be fun to turn something like this into?</p>

I tried to chase some birds yesterday with limited success. The RX part was clear and very understandable (tho fast!!), the tricky part is the TX part. IC-705 with 10w and a 3 Element LogPer with 7.1dBi seems to be on the lower end. Any recommendations? #hamradio #amsat #darc

Anybody know how to get these little black circle things out of a handheld radio? I presume they hide screws that need to be removed so I can open the radio to replace the screen.

@tubetime Could also be used in ham bands with proper crystals and tuning. Had a large control head, big external speaker, and a heavy microphone that could be used as a short range defensive weapon (within the length of the cord). Was based on Nuvistors (a-bit hard to find these days). #HamRadio #motorcycle

I went galumping this morning... to a state park to practice/play with my ham radio gear. New antenna setup 40m (7 mhz)... no contacts. The antenna tuner showed 25 watts out, 0 back, but couldn't make 1 single contact.

And then I heard it.... the light sounds of rain. Slung the tarp over the lift style tail gate... just in time to get drenched. Soaked through my clothes drenched. Squishing socks and shoes drenched... squish squish squish. You get the picture.

Heard a rumble of thunder. Turned everything off, and started dismantling the ##hamradio gear... get everything back in the car.... and it stops raining.... squish squish squish.. . So I sat in the car to dry out.

As I'm typing this, it's started with a light rain, but the sun is out. Great.... going to be 3000% humidity. I'm going into the steam cycle.

I'm wondering if I should try again, or just head home. Either way, I've got to drag all of the wet damp gear upstairs into my apartment to dry off.
