If you couldn't attend #LPS25, the European Space Agency has compiled the top five key takeaways for you to be aware of.

We had a fantastic time at ESA's Living Planet Symposium #LPS25 in Vienna! This year, it was all about how we can use remote sensing for improving #ClimateAction and #sustainability. Our team presented work on improving seasonal crop yield forecasts, mapping nitrogen, biomass, and forest carbon using satellite data, models, and AI. A big step towards better land management and food security.

Why does a conference organised by an European organisation try to force people to use GAFAM-dependent apps?
Conference planning was much more difficult without app and now, feedback can only be given with app!

Reminder: my #LPS25 talk is tomorrow - literally the last talk of the conference.
But I promise it's going to be entertaining and you'll leave on a high note! Here's a sneak peak...
It's a bit surreal to be in this #LPS25 panel discussion about the future of small sats and constellations, and no one talks at all about the fact that LEO is already on the way to runaway debris at the present number of space objects. http://www.researchgate.net/publication/391093502_CRITICAL_NUMBER_OF_SPACECRAFT_IN_LOW_EARTH_ORBIT_A_NEW_ASSESSMENT_OF_THE_STABILITY_OF_THE_ORBITAL_DEBRIS_ENVIRONMENT
If you're a young scientist at #LPS25 with great new ideas, but you're working at a university or institution without deep experience building satellites, you should come by this agora session this afternoon (15:30-16:15).
I and others who went through the first NEOMI round will talk about the (great) experience.
Connect with #CopernicusClimate director Carlo Buontempo at the meet-and-greet event today at #LPS25. Visit the ECMWF booth between 1.30pm and 2.30pm to discuss the latest developments in climate monitoring and more.

I got through nearly two full days before an audience member decided they needed to shout out a question rather than using a mic at #LPS25. The question was impossible for nearly everyone in the room to understand
The #Sentinel3 team also just mentioned offhand that Sentenel3-NG will support twilight and night observations!
At #LPS25 the #Sentinel2 team just said that they will support nighttime observations in Sentinel 2NG.
My understanding was that this was expected to be impossible with the existing architecture, so I'm very curious to hear more!
Our talk — “FOSS4G Observatory: an open initiative to support the long-term sustainability of open-source geospatial projects” — was presented today at #LPS25
We’ll be ( @codrina , @vcraciunescu ) here, all week, in Vienna to:
Sharing
Learning
Connecting
and Enjoying the energy of this #EO community.
Whether you are maintainers, contributors or just passionate about open geo, we’re always up for an exchange ideas, explore synergies, and build great things together
Yesterday we kickstarted the #lps25 with the a workshop on vector data cubes using Xvec package built on top of Xarray, Shapely and @geopandas. If you did not manage to be there but are still interested, the workshop material is available at https://github.com/martinfleis/lps25. It covers the concept of VDC using both coordinate geometry and variable geometry with applications (and a combination of the two) using real-world data and use cases.
We are at the #lps25, come say hi at booth R26 (first floor) and find out all the #qfield news!
