We had a fantastic time at ESA's Living Planet Symposium #LPS25 in Vienna! This year, it was all about how we can use remote sensing for improving #ClimateAction and #sustainability. Our team presented work on improving seasonal crop yield forecasts, mapping nitrogen, biomass, and forest carbon using satellite data, models, and AI. A big step towards better land management and food security.

If you're a young scientist at #LPS25 with great new ideas, but you're working at a university or institution without deep experience building satellites, you should come by this agora session this afternoon (15:30-16:15).

I and others who went through the first NEOMI round will talk about the (great) experience.

🎙️ Our talk — “FOSS4G Observatory: an open initiative to support the long-term sustainability of open-source geospatial projects” — was presented today at #LPS25 🌍 🛰️

We’ll be ( @codrina , @vcraciunescu ) here, all week, in Vienna 🇦🇹 to:
💻 Sharing
📝 Learning
🤝 Connecting
✨ and Enjoying the energy of this #EO community.

Whether you are maintainers, contributors or just passionate about open geo, we’re always up for an exchange ideas, explore synergies, and build great things together 🌐

Yesterday we kickstarted the #lps25 with the a workshop on vector data cubes using Xvec package built on top of Xarray, Shapely and @geopandas. If you did not manage to be there but are still interested, the workshop material is available at github.com/martinfleis/lps25. It covers the concept of VDC using both coordinate geometry and variable geometry with applications (and a combination of the two) using real-world data and use cases.
