I'm continuing to build out my IoT test rig, and looking forward to testing some upgraded components soon. I found [Ben Mazur's excellent article https://www.ignitec.com/insights/the-importance-of-test-rigs-in-research-and-development/ that defines "test rig" and its benefits in a way that is consistent with my lab.

I'm making lightweight data loggers out of Raspberry Pi Pico W, ESP32, Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W as MQTT broker, and almost every sensor I find in my lab sensor bin.

TIL that Last Will and Testament (LWT) is part of the MQTT protocol. It's so useful I think it must be a published design pattern for IoT. Anyone know?

Yesterday, I set up a Raspberry Pi as a wifi access point in the lab, creating a local subnet just for IoT experiments. It's nice how easy it is to make that work. I'll configure some Raspberry Pi Pico W boards and ESP32 to connect to the access point.
