I took a couple of #renault5 s out for a test today.
Power is adequate. Handling is superb. It's a lot of fun to hustle along a back road. Tyres have just the right level of grip. Tech is slick, and very Renault (radio controls on a separate stalk, lol!)
Techno trim does all I need, I don't think Iconic brings enough to the party for the extra €2k. #ev
Still undecided on the colour. Blue harks back to the Clio Williams?

Sitz- und Fahrkomfort, Technik, Bedienung (viele echte Knöpfe!) und Rundumsicht waren allesamt hervorragend. Viel besser als man das noch vor 10 Jahren im Renault Zoe erlebt hat. Das ist wohl echt ein gelungenes Elektroauto mit klitzekleinen Abstrichen hier und da, die aber wohl jeder anders schlimm bewertet. Die Rückfahrkamera ist funktional, aber eher schlecht aufgelöst. Hier zu sehen: ein #Renault5 in der Knutschkugel Version mit extra wenig Pixeln. >
Ok, one major issue popped up with the #Renault5 on the last test drive. It’s one of those cars that stupidly uses the #CarPlay profile that doesn’t allow you to freely scroll through and select any album from your Apple Music library. Hate cars that do that!
The justification is safety, keeping focus on the road. But damn it if I have an album or two in mind, I want to play them. So if the CarPlay interface doesn’t allow it I will have to dig out my phone and select there.

I have to say I’m extremely impressed by the #Renault5 #EV. #Renault have done an amazing job at creating an ‘every person’ car at the more affordable price level, but still being desirable and a pleasure to drive. Nags easy to turn off, nice driving dynamics, good seats, good physical controls, responsive UI. Extra points for having sounds designed by #Jarre. I mean of course it has, as a proper French car.
Consistently frustrated that reviews for #EVs don’t cover two absolutely key items:
* How easy is it to turn off the driver annoyances / nags? (e.g. #Renault5 — super easy! #Hyundai #Inster — impossible to turn all of them off)
* Does it have Dog Mode / Pet Mode?!? (Of European EVs very few, such as #Tesla, have a full pet mode. Maybe 50–60% have some way of leaving A/C on after leaving and locking, others, such as #Jeep, have really nothing beyond the app or climate timing hack)
Could we not have the #Renault5 software and dashboard layout in the #Hyundai #Inster? The latter has a fantastic layout but the EU nags and beeps (some of which apparently could not even be turned off) and menu hell are just going to lead to the #EV #car remaining in the showroom. What a nightmare.

About possible efficiency improvement I deplore the choice of #renault to go for a revival of #renault5 EV.
To revive the 1970 style they compromised on ACx. Probably taking a hit of 10% compared to a 2020 aero performance.
Not sure if neoretro styling will help them with marketing, but personally I would have preferred a full efficient shape.
