Finished project: everyday trousers with cargo pockets.

This is my third pair of trousers. I think I'm getting the hang of it, except for the fly zip, which I do wrong in a creatively new way every time.

Process thread coming up 🧵

Underground Embroidery at Uniqlo

I found myself hypnotized by the embroidery machine at Uniqlo in Covent Garden.

To Celebrate 25 years of Transport for London, UNIQLO teamed up with TFL to give you the opportunity to add TfL's iconic motifs to your uniqlo items.

Update: checked the pants, and I did a horrible job of sewing the two inner legs... as in I left a massive amount of fabric available in the seam (I think I was struggling with the stretchiness, one of the first two things I sewed). I just removed all the stitching and will re-sew it with a very tight seam allowance... at one point there was a half an inch seam allowance, LOL... What an amateur. Will see if that reduces or eliminates the sausage casing issues here tomorrow. #sewing

Pants without my rear end and legs involved. They have all the right parts, but the wrong dimensions for me, ha ha ha. Good learning experience, but the complexity level definitely more than my skill level. (Mostly, too many parts trying to copy existing clothing too hard, and my material choice was a complete fail). #sewing

Funky smells seemed to be almost entirely gone. A combo of sunlight, air, ammonia window cleaner, lysol, and Murphy's old soap seemed to do the trick. Just wiped all of the surfaces of the cabinet with a light coating on linseed oil, as it looked like the wood needed some protection after stripping off all the old stinky dirt, did not want to induce any wood cracking so opted to do it sooner rather than later. The oil should protect this cabinet and also will seal any stinky odor particles in. Needle replaced (in theory). Now just need to let this dry and then put on the belt, test the new needle position. #sewingmachinerepair #sewing #antiques #ReduceRepairReuseRecycle

VHS vs. Betamax, 1900's style.

Left: 20x1 needle, no longer made
Right: 15x1 needle, now universally adopted as a standard in every sewing machine made... probably the standard since the 1920's?

The details on this cabinet are fabulous. I fixed the bobbin winder with a new bobbin tire, still waiting for the replacement leather belt for the treadle. Removed 116 years of four different threads on the bobbin (moldy, stinky, smoky) and will rewind some. Was able to dislodge the needle (20x1, no longer made), will see if a new needle will hold. I guess most people just collect these as antiques instead of use them and keep them in working order.... #sewingmachinerepair #sewing #antique
