If y'all like #TimeTravel, I heartily suggest looking up the movie "Beyond The Infinite Two Minutes." It's only a dollar to watch on Amazon.

There are two metaphors for thinking about #TimeTravel directionality. One is the river analogy, where going downstream/downtime is going in the direction of flow, and moves you toward the future. One is the sedimentary layers analogy, where layers accumulate bottom to top, so heading downwards/downtime is going against the natural direction, and moves you toward the past.

It helps if you don't confuse your metaphors. In the story I'm reading, Time Interventionist Mike meets TI Harry in 1862 Richmond. Harry comes from a time a century after Mike, but they met in college, since Harry "came Downtime to study under one of [Mike's] professors who'd become famous in the intervening decades." So Downtime equals Pastward. #SciFi

Then later in the story Mike learns that Harry had found out about one of Mike's supposedly secret Interventions, and thinks "That the word had made it further Downtime" meant that Harry blah-blah-blah. So Downtime equals Futureward. Doh. #ScienceFiction

I figured out what happened. When Donald Trump got elected, a new branch of the time continuum got created. Not unlike the branching you see in books like "The Peripheral" by William Gibson. I'm not sure what I was doing that day, but somehow I ended up on this branch. My apologies to all of you, but I'm going focus on getting my life back to the original branch and leaving this one behind. I'm working on a few different ideas around how to hop branches and am making more and more progress every day. I had an epiphany while listening to "Miserere mei, Deus," which I learned about from reading "Martyr!" by Kaveh Akbar. I think I can transport myself to the time when Miserere was written by listening to the emotional weight of it. Something about the harmonies, the lengths of the notes and the timbre of the choir connects me back to when this piece was first composed. My plan is to connect mentally and then transport my body. Well, I *might* be guilty of (unintentionally!) inspiring the inventor of #TimeTravel to rewrite the last 5,700 years. But I try very hard not to think about that.

More personally, I'm not in the sanitarium anymore... but my only friend still is. And he shouldn't be - he's just gay, but that's treated as a mental illness in this society.

The *guilt* is because I'm not sure how much I can risk to help him...

Ok, I heard some fair complaints about my schlocky previous post, and this one is much more serious. Ok, what am I saying?? It's straight-up sci-fi comedy with a retrocomputing subject matter, but I took it seriously.

Initially, I was inspired by CJ's wonderful blost about his transition from being a long-term mac user to now daily-driving Linux, and wanted to share my own experiences as a long-term Mac user over nearly two decades, with a decade and a half separating the two times. But then my internal Sotolf mental processes went off and reminded me of how elitist and anti-common-person / anti-consumer / anti-human Apple was, and I went in a very different direction.

I hope y'all enjoy the humor. :D

Minor #CW: some of the humor is of a USPOL nature. It's very light, humor and presentation-wise, but the implications are pretty dark, if you take it seriously (which you're not intended or likely inclined to!)
